So after Ashfur was in remission, I moved out and he stayed with the family I was living with.

They called me today and asked if I would come over and check on his blood sugar. They told me they started giving him a new low carb kibble a week ago and he started acting funny. I sighed "Low carb kibble...I wish there was one!" It indeed seemed to be a bad kibble with false advertisement. Accidents happen, but this has made Ashfurs blood sugar at a fasting poke of 304 today. They said he has only been eating it a week or so and it's the first dry food since remission started.

We will be dropping him at the vet tomorrow because he has stopped eating and drinking. And is acting sick.

My question is are we looking at another round of charts and pokes and insulin or is it possible for cats to be reversed just by diet change? Especially since the new food he hasn't been eating very Long... if so how long is a reasonable amount of time to wait and see?

Is it possible? I haven't gone through the other posts, please forgive my rush to ask this...

You guys are so great on this site. I so appreciate everyone. Thank you!

Hi there, sorry you didn't get any responses yet.

I'm no expert but if I recall correctly this same scenario has been posted a few times before by other people and the answer given was that most likely, a return to a proper low-carb diet will be all that is needed.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I actually feel bad today for even posting in that panic state. I should have went to bed and did some research this morning.
I'm looking through the threads today for answers.
Your very kind in words. Thank you ❤️

I was trying to delete my post but don't know how...

It's ok and your fear is understandable, I hope nothing else is wrong but an infection or illness can get them out of remission too, hopefully going back to his low carb diet is all he needs, still it would be advisable to keep monitoring him a bit more closely, not like when you are giving insulin but still checking his blood glucose as much as you can

He may need to go back onto insulin for a period of time. Cats in remission are diet controlled, but their pancreas may not be a strong as one that never had diabetes. I would start back a low carb diet ASAP.

Let us know how he dose at the vet today. Make sure they check his teeth too. Mouth issues are a common cause for cats to get out of remission.
