So he was the lowest he’s ever been for his PMPS.
I gave him his normal dose of 1 unit, then just tested at +2 and he was 61.

Should I have cut down his dose?

I got reprimanded by his vet when I cut his dose before - she said changing his dose can be detrimental to his treatment.

He didn’t eat much at dinner time when I gave him his shot, so I just gave him some dry and he’s eating now. The dry I have is 17% carbs.

I’m worried because we’re about to go to bed.

Should I feed some higher carb food as well?

Because you are doing SLGS, you reduce the dose when the BG drops under 90, so you need to reduce the dose to 0.75 U
Your vet is wrong in that if the BG drops under the 90 and you don't reduce the dose, you run the risk of dropping too low, especially if you are feeding dry food.
It won't adversely affect the treatment.
I think you need to stay up a bit longer until the BG is higher.
Yes feed some higher carb food when the BG drops under 90. And you will need to wait and see he can stay up on his own without food once he is up 100. It is still early in the cycle at +2 so I think you will be up for a while yet.

Thank you for the response.

His vet also said that I don’t need to test his BG unless we’re doing a curve. Doesn’t really make sense, because then what if, like tonight, he gets too low, and I would never know?

I gave him a little more dry food, which he ate. I also gave him a licky treat, which he loves.

If I test him again at +4 and he goes up, do you think we’ll be ok for the night? Is it possible for his BG to go up, then back down again after the +4 point?

Tux has just proved your vet wrong and shown you exactly why we say home testing is the only way to keep you kitty safe.
If you shoot a lower than normal preshot BG it is always a good idea to get a +1 and a +2 so that you can see if the BG is going to go down early in the cycle and it will stop you getting a nasty surprise at +3 or +4.
Yes it is possible for the BGs to wobble about a bit if they drop down early in the cycle. So it is a good idea to test until nadir if you can.
That is why we say...if a cat has been given high carb food you need to wait for 2 hours after the last high carb food to see that the cat can stay up on his own.

Thank you, again - I really do appreciate the responses.

His +4 was 67, so went up, but only by a few. I gave him a spoon of wet food w/gravy (not pate). He is thoroughly enjoying all the treats tonight lol

I guess I’m up for another 2 hours. His energy level is normal for midnight - “hunting” his toys and bringing them upstairs to show us what a good boy he is.

How is it going now?
Hi!
He was 106 at his +6 last night, so I felt comfortable enough going to bed.

Was a little high this morning at 275 AMPS, but he did get a few snacks last night that aren’t a normal part of his diet.

Just took his PMPS now, and he’s 137, so I plan on dosing as normal.
