Good morning

Think I have to bite the bullet and give her 2.75 or 3 this morning. Getting too high again, of course; saw it coming sooner or later. She had "earned" here the 2.75 previously, and the vet hospital said last weekend if her preshot is her norm and she's eating again, to give the 3; so somewhat the same advice/opinion (2.75 and 3 are pretty close). Last night she didn't eat as good as during the day, which was disappointing. Whatever I give, I'll check her at lunch.

Take her back up to the 2.75 and see what she does. She needs it to counteract the DM.

How is her appetite and poopies?
 
Poops great. She made 3 yesterday lol. Appetite awesome yesterday too; last night not so much, but she was high so maybe that played a part.
 
I respectfully disagree with increasing now. I know, believe me, how hard it is to see the higher numbers. With SLGS you hold the dose for 7 days - 14 cycles.
Giving 3 units on 3/10, 1.5 on 3/11 and 2.5 units since has altered the depot. That along with @babyg 's comfort level of nadir's in the 100s, IMHO I would strongly suggest to hold 2.5 for the full week then do a curve.

Oh I thought it was a week since the reduction already.. And yeah, with SLGS you have to hold it for the full week.
 
But if you've already had that dose and it proved ineffective, I thought you were supposed to go back up to whichever previous dose gave good results? I saw it somewhere on here but can't find it now due to time constraints, sorry. I'll look later when I get back home.:)
 
She only ended up on the 2.5 because she wasnt eating and the 3 combined with the low carb crashed her. Otherwise she wouldn't have been on it as it's usually proven ineffective to control her.

Agreed! Lots of different variables with your dose changes so far and they made perfect sense at the time.
Now that things have settled I would pick a dose and stick with it for the full 7 days. You're already 3 days in, and today would be day 4.
 
I think if i were to pick a dose to do a full 7 days on I'd go with 2.75 or 3. Itd be like me doing 1.5 for 7 days just because she was on it for a hot second. Doesnt make sense to me personally

You hold the syringe so ultimately the decision to/what to shoot is yours :cat:.

Sometimes I have to think out loud and gather other thoughts to help me decide. I appreciate it but
 
@Angela & Cleo you are correct about sticking with the dose for seven days per SLGS protocol. There’s been too much jockeying around of the dose recently and this is not a good thing with a depot insulin. It creates wonkiness in the numbers and hampers the depot insulin’s innate ability to create flatter cycles. The blue preshots of 3/6 and 3/11 were safe to shoot the normal dose with a depot insulin. See, RJ, how when you got the recent blue preshots and shot a reduced dose that the depot carried her for a portion of that cycle, but by the evening cycle she went really high. Remember that this is not like ProZinc where you actually may need to shoot a reduced dose with a low preshot. With Lantus we actually want lower preshots because that’s how it’s designed to work. When you shoot the lower preshots you get much smoother flatter cycles. Now, believe me I know how scary it is at first to shoot your first blue or your first green.
 
The depot will take 6-8 cycles to rebuild after a skipped/token dose. As for counting cycles and needing to hold the dose for 14 cycles, every time there is a fur shot or a reduced dose is shot or anything other than the full dose is shot, the clock is reset and you have to start counting the 14 cycles all over again.
 
Guess we'll have to agree to disagree. :) I'm thankful to God I did not give her full dose on the 11th; would have likely ended up with a dead cat or at the very least an expensive vet hospital bill.
There are a lot of other things I'd point out that make no sense to me at all but eh... I'll just let it go. I think you guys mean well and all. I just never 100% agree with everything here. I think I'm best continuing to work with my vet and continuing with the good I've learned here :)but leaving the rest. I do like to talk about cat stuff in general so maybe that's what I can stick to. :p if it weren't that I'm actually allergic to cats (have to wash my hands after dealing with mine) I would love to have some kind of a job helping/working with cats.

Not quite. The concept of counting cycles and starting the count over again after a fur shot or reduced shot doesn’t apply to SLGS, it is only something for those who follow TR given that it is more aggressive and doses are not held as long with TR where you are subject to “consecutive cycles”. With SLGS doses are held for a week, even where you have a reduced shot or skip. Within that week you’ll usually have enough time for the depot to refill, so you don’t need to restart the cycle count.

And if you shoot multiple reduced shots and or skipped shots the depot is going to be impacted
 
She's unfortunately getting another reduced shot this morning. Not eating again. :banghead: looking to take her to the vet. I think the ondansetron was removed too quickly. If I'd have known she was going to pull that again I'd have left her at the 2.5 after all. :p just seems like a waste of efforts if she's going back and forth with eating.

I think a Vet visit is a good idea, keep us posted and give Baby scritches from me.:cat:
 
Thanks, I just got off phone with them. Turns out her regular vet is off today. :( they said I could see a different vet there or bring her in tomorrow. When I asked what they would do if she came in, they admitted there isn't really a cure or anything for pancreatitis, so seems pointless to put her through all that stress to come in. I'm waiting to see if a vet there can call me back and advise if I can resume the ondansetron or what I can do medicine wise and how this all affects her dose again. I'd bring her in if they could actually do something and I wish they could. It's like please fix my cat lol. Took today off so I can bring her in if need be and also to round the clock try to get her to eat. I don't want a feeding tube situation again. So just waiting now for the callback so I know how the day is going to play out.
 
I am so sorry she’s not eating. It’s such a worry when they won’t eat. I am sending all good thoughts and wishes for Baby today!
