Hi, I have been doing it manually from the start as I thought the noise of the lancer would spook him. Just hold his ear steady near the edge and use enough light so that you can see what you are doing and then poke a hole and see if you get anything. Don't let go until you are done. I always have a cold, wet tissue and place it over his ear after poking is over and compress it for about 20 seconds.

I put a folded tissue behind the ear so I don't poke myself. SO much easier free hand than when I tried using the "pen" on a kitty's tiny ear veins. You can do it!

I used the cotton rounds or ovals too and I would warm up the ear as well before poking. Make sure the lancet bevel is side up so you’re poking with the sharp edge
that is what i have been having in my hand however it scares him..i don't mind if i poke myself..but i know I am supposed to apply pressure, however if he continues the same behavior he will be outa there...

I ended up using rubber thimbles to keep from poking myself.

I actually use two because one type was too big and the other was the right size but I would like right through it.

Hi!
Pumpkin tolerates these rubber fingers? Seems so un-natural?? but thx, I've read all your posts and knew you used them....but weird.. I'm not really concerned about pokes...so you never said.. do you use a 45 Degree angle?
I don't imagine a 90 degree would be utilizing the bevel up on the lancet.

Ale, 45 degree angle then to use the bevel on the lancet? i did inspect my 28G and see the bevel (barely) LOL
I look forward to your reply, haven't gotten an answer yet about angle of lancet free handing. Thx! :)

CatmamaG,
do you use a 45 degree angle to utilize the bevel on lancet then? Thx Mary

She doesn't seem to mind the rubber fingers at all. Certainly not any more than me using my bare hand. But your cat might be different.

I go more or less straight in, not sure if that's the right thing to do, but it's what I do.

Diane,
HI and thx.
so you are one of the few that uses a 45 degree angle and uses the bevel.
Everyone else has replied they just poke at a 90 degree which does not use the bevel.
Thx Mary
