Looks like his numbers are moving up and it's not a bounce. It's not uncommon for a dose to become "stale". That's feline diabetes for you! Up and down and up and down in dose we go!

Yes, I see this. I'm definitely going to go up .5 the next increase.

Also, based on his number pattern, is it feasible to increase every 5 days instead of 7? I feel like around day 4 or 5 it's evident how he's trending.

Everything about diabetes is frustrating, lol. Hoping he will put out better numbers soon! I like his markings by his nose, almost like a little mustache.

Thank you! Yes he has a half stache and a goatee! Just did a .25 increase this morning, so we'll see in a couple of days.

I feel like the little bit of weight he put on is impacting his insulin needs.

It probably is, but I'd take it as a good sign that he's on the right track. :) The vets may not be right about a lot of things regarding FD, but this I believe to be true, when they told me weight is a really good indicator of their progress. If they are gaining and/or maintaining, you're doing something right.

Unfortunately, SLGS allows for increases only once a week. It also requires that you hold a failed reduction a week and take back-to-back reductions even though they are likely to fail. It was written for caregivers who can just about manage to get pre-shot tests, so it is very conservative. There are a few people who test enough for TR but have to follow SLGS because they feed dry food. TR requires that a cat is fed a low carb canned food. It predates low carb dry food. Because dry food is a different animal from wet food, the belief is that one does not know how it affects numbers. So TR might be too aggressive for a cat on dry food since TR was studied and published for canned food.

With cats who have a history of ketones or DKA, some fast-tracking of dose is done with SLGS when the members test enough for TR. We also recommend that members who test often work with a lower reduction point and try and avoid back-to-back reductions by preventing drops below the reduction point.

In Sly's case, let's see what he does on 5.5 in the next 2-3 days. Maybe that is all he needs for now. Paws crossed.

I understand the protocol, but I just can't see holding a dose for 7 days (at least in Sly's case) when I can see it's just creating a cycle where he needs more and more to get him to the same place without further downward trends. He seems to max out around 109 for a low, which is nice if he can achieve it daily.

Looking at his ss I do see a change in color in the right direction, as in more blues. Give it some time. Is it at all possible to slowly ditch the dry food?

I am trying, but he is just so adamant about his crunches.

Let's put it this way, twice daily, all my cats get 1/3 can fancy feast each. He never finishes his and goes to his dish after. I don't allow any dry past +6, and nothing after +10.. But he will hold out!!

He has put some weight back on, so I can now safely try to get his weight down, but he's just so challenging food wise.

I thought about switching to Friskies, because the can is bigger, and I wonder if he'd eat more off the plate if he knew he was getting less dry. Its such a balancing act.

I know he's doing better than he was, ans I am happy, it just gets frustrating to see day 5 in a cycle, and then he starts rising again..its like an endless circle of increasing.

For most it’s a marathon and not a race. The dance gets frustrating but eventually their little bodies always seem to get used to normal numbers. It took my boy about 9-12 months but he had chronic pancreatitis which trashed his pancreas I think

I know it is, and I feel silly for going off on a tangent just because I don't approve of his numbers.

Sly has been a big learning curve for me. My previous sugar cat was regulated in 2 or 3 months, and got close to remission, even though it was never a "goal".

After 2 years though, his IBD and EGC both flared, Atopica was no longer working and he was back on the roids. It killed me, because prednilisone was what likely made him a perfect candidate for diabetes. Even still, I could keep him under 200 at all times and we had good control.

ECID though, I just want to do what's best for Sly, and idk, right now I feel like I'm letting him down. My cats are my world.

Thanks for listening,
