My heading is a bit misleading. It’s the figures from yesterday. This morning AMPS she was 49 so I fed her medium carb and she went up to 74 so I gave her the usual dose. She has refused to let me test her since, except twice but my monitor had errors, which it usually only does when she is low.
She refuses to let me test her pre shot tonight. Should I skip altogether? Last time I accidentally skipped she went up to about 367 the next morning.
@Bron and Sheba (GA) help! Last time I posted I was considering upping the dose but the next day she went lower so I didn’t. I don’t know what’s going on with her. She feels sick when she’s low and she hasn’t eaten very well. She’ll eat the savoury centres but not much else. I’m supposed to go into the office tomorrow right after her normal shot time, but I’m not feeling good about that and now her shot time will be late and make me late.
Do I shoot and if so, 3.25u or 3?
Thanks.

Any luck getting another test? Has she eaten? How long is it since her shot was due?
ETA: When was the last time you tested for ketones?
It’s an hour since her shot was due. No luck testing but I haven’t tried. She was hissing and growling at me so I wanted her to calm down and I’ve had to put my kids in bed. She’s outside watching for mice! She’s eaten a little. She only eats small amounts at any time. Last time I tested for ketones was probably a month ago. Thanks.

I’m just seeing this now.
I’m glad Bhooma was here for you.

If Misty is lower than normal stall, dont feed and test again in 20 minutes. If you feed her, the BG will be food influenced which doesn’t give a true picture of what is happening.
I would hesitate to say shoot with no preshot test and the recent low BGs …and her history….
It would be good if you could get a ketone test
And also if you could get her to eat some food.

I take your point about the food influencing it, but I have to feed her to test her so it will be influenced by food in any event, although not as much as giving her more food which I’ve done in a panic. I will try not to give her more in future. Thanks.

If you need to feed her when you test...try and feed low carb if you are testing a preshot BG.
I know you have trouble with testing her.
I’m just concerned feeding her higher carb food and then waiting for the BG to go up and then giving the dose, you could run into trouble. We can all panic!
Where are you up to now?

I tried to test her again. It’s about 2.5 hours post her shot time. She let me but the monitor gave me another error. She’s gone to bed now under my daughter’s bed. She would not eat much perhaps because of the testing.
I give her the FF broth when testing usually, but today I’ve tried the savoury centres too. I don’t let her eat for 2 hours pre shot, or sometimes it’s a little less if I can’t get her to have her breakfast early enough. I get up at 5.15 to feed her and it takes about half an hour for her to eat her breakfast in fits and starts. I used to just give it to her and come back and she’d be finished but now I have to chase her around with the bowl until I think she’s had enough. I’m exhausted. She woke me up every hour last night. I tried to test her a couple of times but she wouldn’t let me and I let her outside once but she just went out and sat there so I brought her back in. She ate a few bits of food. Usually she has almost a whole FF can overnight.
I’m not sure if this may be a factor, but over february we had swim club on Wednesday nights and Misty’s shot would be an hour or so (little more or little less) late those nights, but this Wednesday there was no club night, so all her shots have been on time.

I can see you have your hands full. Do you think she could be nauseated?
Maybe you could see if a cerenia tablet or an ondansetron wafer might help from the vet. The other name for ondansetron out here in Australia is zofran and you need a script from the vet and you get the zofran from the pharmacy. They come in 4mg wafers.
Can you leave some food out for her? Maybe something tempting…even if it is not low carb? With her history the 3.25 dose may be too much.
Don’t let her go any longer than the morning without food or insulin. And if you can get a ketones test done, that would ease my mind.

Thanks again. I tried to test her pre normal shot time and both monitors had error messages. I tested myself and then her again and she was 4.9. It seems I need to test myself to reset the damned monitor. I can’t believe she was 4.9 after skipping a shot. Thank goodness I skipped. At 2hrs post shot she is 7.4. She did finish her breakfast after her shot at some point while I was taking kids to school so maybe that has impacted that result, but I feel better that she’s in blue. I managed to arrange to work from home. After school drop off I bought some other food that she is keen on, but is found at a small out of the way shop (whiskas loaf chicken). Hopefully she’s back on track now and will eat some for lunch. It’s going to be a hot one today, so she’s inside now.
I hope you’ve been ok too.

I glad you were able to get a test done. Not sure what the matter is with the meter. You need a reliable one! So frustrating.
Lucky you could work from home today!
She may be needing less insulin so keep an eye in that.
I’m glad you were able to get some more of the food she likes…it’s hard when they won’t eat.
You do a really good job looking after Misty.
It’s hot already here and it’s only 10 am. They say 38 here today and I guess you are the same.
I’ve just hosed all my plants and had an early walk.
