2/28 Snuggles AMPS-155/91+2/85+2.5/PMPS-133/84+2/77+3/99+5.75

Good evening Suzanne. Thank you for the messages. Snugs took one snack from hubby…he even held the dish for her..she was about 1/2 done eating it and growled at him. He set the plate down and she did finish it. :cat:
You know, I think this is a good thing, that Snugs is taking snacks from him, and is gradually getting more used to him. He has the opportunity to do something nice for her when you’re not at home and she’s kind of responding to it positively — at least in the beginning part of the snack. I just think that she’s going to see that he’s not such a bad guy after all. :)

She is still having the black stool. The vet is calling me Thursday evening to discuss questions I have. I did notice my other kitty has really dark stool too..not black but a really dark brown. I guess the vet questioned whether it was blood due to lab work being normal. If I take a stool sample in it will take 7 days for results to come back. I wish I would have pushed more than I did for the X-ray but the vet really didn’t think it was necessary. :(

@Suzanne & Darcy
Hi Suzanne what do you think about this

You know, I was just thinking about this situation this morning (while I was scooping litter boxes!) I think the most prudent thing to do is to get a stool sample taken to the vet and have them check it to see if there is any blood in it. It may not even be blood at all. There is a test to detect blood. This is the first course of action and the least invasive and least expensive thing to do. Snuggles doesn't even have to go to the vet as you can collect the sample yourself at home.

I would not do an x-ray yet. If she's eating and drinking and seems to have a normal appetite with normal appetite and bowel habits (except for it being dark in color). There's more advanced PCR stool testing that can be done, but it's expensive and will take a little while to get it back.

The vet’s office told me they do no testing for blood in the stool in the office.:(

They don’t check stool at all..gets sent out unfortunately.
Wow. What kind of vet is that? Strange. I just had a stool sample taken on Monday of this week for one of my foster kittens. My vet checked the smear under the microscope thoroughly. Sorry this is so frustrating. I hope she feels well.

She’s feeling fine..her normal self. Snugs does not like the Carafate..I think I’m going to skip tomorrow morning’s dose and talk to vet tomorrow evening. She was really prescribed medication without a definitive diagnosis. It’s just not sitting right with me. :(
