? 2/27 Bella AMPS 93, +2 85, +4 76, PMPS 103, +2.5 59, +4 60 question dental exam?

My veterinarian's office left a message: they can take Bella on wednesday for her dental exam. I'm not sure what to do, they have not been great with her diabetes and I'm afraid of leaving her there. And I don't like the vet who does the dental exams, but there is only one. How do you manage dentals? I have to call back tonight.

Is it an exam for a dental, or the dental itself? I got my vet to refer us to a dental specialist vet. I felt much more comfortable with that. Dental vets are used to more "complicated" and older animals, plus mine does extra monitoring. And he knew about acromegaly so managed to save one of Neko's teeth. Long story, but what looked like a bad tooth was just soft tissue growth getting in the way of a tooth above.

They have a dental specialist vet who comes once a month. She was scheduled for May 8th but they had a cancellation. She had her last dental in 2019, so I know she needs one. I said yes so we will get it on Wednesday. It always makes me nervous to leave her, but I'm working on it.
They are telling me to feed her and give insulin, but I will do as my old vet (she retired) advised: not feed and do not give insulin. Especially since she is not getting too high anymore. What do you think?

Thank you, Diane! My vet said that too. The weird thing here is that the tech told me that if she was not diabetic, they would say no food afetr midnight. But since she is, she can eat. It worries me to have them anesthetize her with food in her stomach, so I won't feed her.
There are only 2 dentals, apparently. She could not tell me who was first. She will be either around 10 or around noon. I'm bringing her in at 8 so they can do the sedation and x-rays before.

What time is her shot?

In Bandit's case, I fed till 8 hours before I had to drop her off. And she got her shot the previous evening. I skipped the morning shot. Some vets recommend giving half the dose and half the breakfast on the morning of the dental. You want to remind them again that she is a diabetic when you drop her off.

Her shot is at 7:30, so 45 minutes before I bring her in, they told me to check her in at 8:15. I will remind them. I think I might even write it on her carrier.
In 2019 when she had her first one, I fed her until 8 hours before as well. She was not diabetic then.

You could shoot her at 7pm the previous night so that she can eat for the first 5 hours of the cycle. Just in case she pulls any stunts and decides to dive in a cycle where she can't eat after +5!

Like tonight? 59 @ +2.5. I usually don't test her that soon but she was very vocal and looked starving.

There are different anaesthesia protocols for diabetics vs non diabetic. Neko’s dental vet said I could feed up to 6am but 1/3 of her breakfast only. And do half shot. One time I just gave a token dose cause she was trolling for a reduction, and I was glad I reduced it. Make sure you take in some of her food for them to give her when she wakes up.
