Good morning. Im asking for help. I have a very insulin sensitive kitty. At a dose of 0.50, the liver reacts in a panic. At the 0.25 dose, her sugar does not drop at all, she feels sick and vomits and eats very little. We use lantus. From 16.2. we measure the sugar with an animal meter.

What is your cat's name and what are you feeding her?
When was she diagnosed with diabetes?
Have you been testing her for ketones? High numbers, feeling sick, not eating and too little insulin can lead to a life threatening condition called Diabetic Ketoacidosis.

Was the spreadsheet in our format? Created on Google Sheets? If yes, you can check in your Google Drive.

Do you think Mici could be feeling sick from something such as pancreatitis?
Have you been to the vet and got a medication for the vomiting and nausea?
I am also concerned she is eating so little.
Is there any food she will eat for you?. Don't worry if it is not a suitable food for a diabetic cat at the moment. It is more important that she eats any food.

Skrbi me tudi, da jedo tako malo.
Ali obstaja kakšna hrana, ki jo bo pojedla za vas?. Brez skrbi, če trenutno ni primerna hrana za diabetično mačko. Pomembneje je, da poje katero koli hrano.

Ne , misim da se počuti slabo izključno zaradi premale doze.

I don't know why her dose was reduced to 0.25U. With both our dosing methods, a reduction is earned only if the BG drops below 5. I would increase to 0.5U from tonight.

Are you feeding low carb wet food? You are testing enough to follow our TR protocol for dosing.

Why did you switch to a pet meter from a human meter? Looks like you were using the Contour Next meter before the Wellion Vet?
 
Merilec sem menjala, da bi imela boljši pregled nad zdravljenjem. Hranim samo z mokro hrano, nizki OH. Mici je na zelo nizki dozi inzulina. Svetovano mi je bilo , da naj zmanjšam na fb strani feline diabetes support group, ker naj bi tista rdeča vrednost vmes pomenila panična jetra ( bounce ). Sem za SLGS, zaradi službe. 9 ur je nima kdo spremljati in strah me je hipo.

Even with SLGS, Mici did not earn a reduction from 0.4U to 0.25U. With SLGS, you reduce the dose if her sugar drops below 5. I would take her up to 0.5U.

You are testing enough for TR.
 
Kako naj reagiram na rdeče številke pri dozi 0.5. Zdaj bom doma 4 tede. Lahko testiram bolj pogosto. Ko sem v službi nimam nikogar za testirat.

Excellent! Since you are home and you can test, you could try the TR protocol. That way you can get Mici's sugar regulated sooner.

Lantus dosing is based on how low a dose takes the cat. Ignore the highs from bouncing. A cat will bounce till its body gets used to lower numbers. Over time the bouncing will reduce.

@Gordana is scared that she is not testing enough for TR. She has a full time job and is not able to test after AMPS. I think she could try with TR in these 14 days and then test a little more after PMPS when she starts job again.

Till she is at home, she can follow TR and get Mici into good numbers. Once she has to start work, she can switch to SLGS.
 
I just talked with @Gordana and we agreeded that she tries to follow TR now that she is at home and can check Mici.

i am just wondering about her vomiting and diarrhea. When se was diagnosed they said that she has gastritis. I think this vomiting is more related to the gastritis then to insulin sensitivity. What do you think @Bandit's Mom ? Mici is not getting any medication for that gastritis and vomits when she is at pink numbers.
I adviced Gordana to try feed Mici smaller portions few times a day (every 2 hours).

That's great! @Gordana we increase and decrease in multiples of 0.25U so the dose after 0.25 would be 0.5 and not 0.4. Please take her up to 0.5U tomorrow?

It is not insulin sensitivity that causes vomiting and diarrhea. Does she have any food allergies? Was she tested for pancreatitis? Could it be just that she eats too fast when she is hungry? Feedign small meals multiple times a day could help with that.

@Gordana said that she doesn't have any known food allergies (she is always giving same food). She was tested for pancreatitis and it was not pancreatitis. She took her to the vet several times when Mici had episodes of vomiting and diarrhea and the vet gave her metoclopramide and some iv/sq fluids.

It could be that Mici eats too fast because Gordana mentioned to me that sometimes she eats everything like she is starving. Like I said I adviced her to give Mici smaller portions several times a day to see if that is the problem. I also said to maybe ask the vet next time about gastritis and if Mici needs any acid blockers that may prevent problems with vomiting.

They are starting 0.5U and will try that dose for couple of days to see how Mici is doing.
