2/19 Miho

Hi Sophia,
I see Miho is up a bit at AMPS today but that is probably because of the reduced dose last night.
If you are able get one or two tests in during the cycle and also try and get that before bed test in every night if you can. Its great data to have.

hi! i was actually surprised it wasn't as high as i thought, considering I gave insulin an hour late this morning. She used to go up to 24~30 mmol/dL w/o insulin. I'm glad I listened to your advice yesterday rather than skipping completely.

I will try to do at least one test every cycle, I know it's important - but she does so much already (getting stabbed with insulin needles twice a day, take meds daily etc) yesterday I was trying to do one more test before bed and she let out a pitiful hoarse meow I felt so bad I couldn't ;_;

Do you happen to know anything about lidocaine cream and if it has blood thinning effect on cats? I put emla (lidocaine) cream on miho's ears after each test, her blood comes out very runny afterwards it's impossible to get it on the test strips..should i stop using it

I’m really glad you are trying to get some more tests in. Well done!
Are you giving a treat after each test?
I can’t see the point of putting on Elma cream after doing the test.
I have not heard that Elma cream thins the blood…I doubt it…but I am not an expert on Elma cream. I personally would not use it.
Most cats don’t complain about having their ears pricked. And they appreciate a treat after the test it as you are doing the test.
Are you pricking in this spot?

That’s what I thought too! I saw a thread here advising to put it after each test, that way you don’t have to put it on each time you prick ears. Either way it’s making her blood consistency weird so I'm using paw paw cream instead. It’s the best <3

Yes I gave a treat today after the test. Last year I used lancet alone & she found it sooo painful. Sometimes the blood wouldn’t come out no matter how many times I poke - I’d cry while pricking her ear from guilt and frustration. It was a nightmare..I did not want to test her as much as I should because of this reason. Later I found out there were certain spots you need to poke like in the picture, I'm also using a lancet pen now & she seems to find it less painful than a raw needle poke. (some cats find the clicking sound scary but she doesn't mind)

I’ll prick the sweet spot area tonight for evening dose! Thanks for reminding me with pictures.
