When I lanced Tessa's ear this morning to test her, the blood came out much darker than usual and the test from that blood came out lower than I expected (66). I tested her again further down the ear and got bright red, normal looking blood and that test came up as 86 which I think is likely the accurate test. Has anyone ever seen that before? I don't think she has a bruise on that ear but I can check later today.

I'm going to double check the calipers this evening before her PM dose just in case I have them set too low. Her numbers have been slightly higher ever since I started using the calipers so I wonder if I messed up somehow. I'll re-measure the plunger, double check the 1 unit measurement, and re-check my math.

I used the same plunger method as you with the calipers - I had to be conscious of not snugging the plunger to the caliper too forcefully otherwise the plunger tabs can flex a bit and end up with too low a dose....hard to explain!

I know what you mean, I've been trying to be gentle but it's definitely possible that I've done that.

I do kind of wonder if she had been getting a higher dose than what the syringes say before I started using the calipers. I noticed yesterday that one of the syringes had the zero line above where the barrel can be filled, if that makes sense. That would also explain why having a true dose is making her numbers increase, if she had been getting more than what I thought she was getting.

With all those greens looks like you will be reducing soon :bighug::cat:

I might wait a bit longer since I haven't seen any tests below 80 in 3 cycles now (other than the AMPS yesterday). TR says you can "attempt a reduction when the cat regularly has its lowest BGs in the normal range of a non-diabetic healthy cat (50 - 80 mg/dL) while staying under 100 mg/dl overall for at least one week." She meets 1 part of the criteria but not the other right now.

I double checked the measurements on the calipers and set up the locked position again and was VERY careful about not pushing the plunger too hard so her PM dose today should be quite accurate. Her numbers are still higher than they have been, hopefully this dose isn't going stale.

I have not encountered this. 86 is much higher than 66. More than meter variance. I would note both on the SS

I was thinking this could be a possibility. I've seen syringes where there is almost 0.5U above and below the zero line when the plunger is fully pressed

I also wonder if she is back to going lower at night and "bouncing" in the day. Her AMPS is lower than PMPS +2 on many/most days.
