Monty had his return visit to the vet to confirm hypertension.
His blood pressure was 180 last week during his vet stay. It was 170 today with me there during the reading. Vet tells me it's not organ damage high but let's bring it down to prevent that.
My vet tells me also his SDMA of 20 last week isn't good enough to diagnose CKD on its own, SDMA needs to be consistently high so we'll measure again in 3 weeks after blood pressure is down.
His protein and urea are high, but that's not unexpected for a cat on a high protein diet like Monty.
It's entirely possible that once we treat hypertension, his SDMA goes down to grade 1 or even safe levels.
I'm starting him on phosphate binders today. Calcium based for a few weeks until my aluminium hydroxide arrives in 3 weeks.
Vet has him on a low dose of an aggressive blood pressure med to lower it fast, and we're switching to a softer med (Semintra) once it's lower.
