I'm trying to help @sandysh66 out with Snuggles
I hope it's OK that I posted for her to explain what's happening

She has been feeding the Hills c/d wet cat food I think k it's 29% carbs.
When her mom passed she took Snuggles and that's what she was eating
She has been feeding the Hills c/d wet and low carb wet
Trying to transition to all low carb wet
She started Lantus on 1-27-23 was on vetsulin previously
The problem is she works and is afraid to just freed all low carb wet because Snuggles won't eat out of the auto feeder and if her husband comes home during the day and puts down a dish for her she hisses and growls at him and won't eat it
She will eat for Sandy though
If you look at her spreadsheet when she got those blue BG's she had to stall and fed HC wet mixed with low carb wet so she wouldn't have to worry about Snuggles dropping too low because she won't eat out of the auto feeder .
She has the next 3 days off and today has only fed low carb wet
I told her to just feed lc while she's home for the next 3 days to see what her numbers will be with just lc.
Sandy does want to see her have better BG numbers but like I said she's worried about Snuggles when she's at work and not eating her snacks
Sandy is going to do a curve tomorrow , Sunday the latest

Her shooting times are 7 Am and 7 PM ,
On Wed night 2-1 she fed
her the 3 snacks 9:30 PM, 11:30 PM and 2:30 AM

Do any of you have any suggestions or advice to give Sandy
Thanks ladies

That's a good idea if you have the next three days off to try the low carb and see how the numbers go.
How long have you had Snuggles?
Do you think she will get used to your husband if he continues to put down the food?
Do you have other cats in the house that would eat food if it was left down for her to eat later?
How many days a week do you work?

I work Monday through Thursday 9am…home between 5 and 6pm. I don’t think Snuggles will get used to him anytime soon..sometimes just walking by her she hisses and growls. I have had Snuggles about 11 months. Snuggles is very timid and scared still and will not come out of the bedroom/bathroom area…it’s a huge area but she gets to the opening to the living room but won’t go in. She is close to me but it was always her and my mom and she doesn’t like my brother either…it’s a guy thing. I do have another kitty…and she’s inquisitive. Her +3 BS is 220…just checked it and gave her a little LC food…is it normal to have an 83 point drop in an hour? My anxiety is getting the best of me. I’m emotionally exhausted worrying. First I worry it’s too high..then I worry it’s going to be too low. I didn’t give her a full supper because earlier she ate too fast and threw up..she gobbles her food when she’s hungry. When is usually the low BS results in the cycle when on Lantus? Does the LC food drop it that drastic when HC is taken away? I will take any and all advice or suggestions. I’m thinking another restless night of worrying for me. :arghh:@Bron and Sheba (GA) @Diane Tyler's Mom @Bandit's Mom @Sienne and Gabby (GA) @tiffmaxee @Suzanne & Darcy @Wendy&Neko

Lantus usually starts working around +2 for most cats. If that bg is lower than the preshot she could drop a lot lower during the cycle. My cat would onset around +2.5. I can’t tell when it kicks in for Snuggles. She’s getting a big food bump. I agree that it would be good to use your days off to see what happens with more lc than hc. Some cats dive after onset while others slide down gently. As she gets better controlled she is likely to have more flat cycles. Have you read any of the stickies at the top of this forum? There’s lots of info that will help you to understand how lantus works. For some cats a switch from hc to lc can be dramatic but not for all.

Try not to get too stressed. It will all work out...it is just taking time and poor little Snuggles has had to get used to a whole new world. Being timid doesn't help.
You can only do your best.
An 83 drop in 2 hours is a bit above average probably but its normal at the onset of the insulin for it to start dropping. Because it is at +2 and the preshot was higher by 83 points could mean it is going to be an active cycle. So just keep testing. I'm glad you gave her a low carb snack.
We all worried it was too high then worried it was too low!
Can you spread the food out on a larger plate so she can't eat as fast. One of my kitties does that and now I feed him on a large plate so it slows him down.
The low point in the cycle of Lantus is usually around +5 to +7 but can be earlier or later.
Changing from HC to LC can make quite a difference. Every cat is different.
We are here yo help you.
Keep asking questions:)

Yes! I can feed her on a larger plate. Im thinking two LC snacks tonight (2tsp) around +5 and +7…does that sound ok? I’m going to test at random times in the night when we wake up. Guess it won’t hurt. Snuggles has had a rough year..uprooted and brought 8 hours away with a new environment…I’m going to give my all to Snuggles...she was my mama’s baby girl. @tiffmaxee @Bron and Sheba (GA) @Diane Tyler's Mom
+4 205 FYI

I would give her another snack now. She has dropped quite a lot at +3. I think I would test at +4 to see if she is still having bid drops

It looks like Snuggles drops into lower, but still safe numbers during the PM cycle. The numbers yesterday morning were probably a bounce.

I would try to get rid of the C/D. All of the varieties are over 20% carb. Since you're going to be around to monitor, it's a good opportunity to see what Snuggles' numbers look like without the HC.

Are there treats that Snuggles likes? If so, perhaps your husband could start giving her treats. Bribes sometimes work!

Well, she will take the Purebites treats from him…once he leaves the room! It’s definitely a work in progress. He talks to her and tries to reassure her and her response is a hiss or growl. An occasional scratch to the arm..which isn’t good due to my husband being on blood thinners. Let’s see what today brings! Gotta wonder what her experience was with men before your mom was her caretaker. FWIW, I have a scary cat, too. She's incredibly sweet but disappears if anyone is in the house. She has had me in utter panic mode when I have had anyone -- male or female -- in the house.

My mom got her as a kitten..she was kept in a garage before my mom got her. Snuggles is pretty much a cat that likes her one person. She also hid when my mom got company..unless it was me or my sisters. My brother would pick on her which probably didn’t help things. We will just keep trying..one day at a time and hopefully she will like my husband eventually. I got lucky he loves cats! @Sienne and Gabby (GA)
