I am fostering a semi-feral kittie until she can get into a local sanctuary this spring. Yesterday I made a mistake of leaving the door open in her isolation room and she escaped and is now hiding under my bed. I put the live trap up there with tuna and treats (and a bit of water) to catch her as I can’t touch her. She won’t even eat the treats. I know everyone says this takes time.
My dilemma is with Howie. He sleeps with me at night and they have not really had an introduction. I feel like I need to put some of her regular food out soon if she won’t go in the live trap to eat, but I can’t let Howie get into it (kibble and friskies). I can’t close him out of my room as he will howl and paw/scratch at my carpet all night (been there done that!). I also am not thrilled with a litter box in my bedroom!
I am open to any advice!. I don’t want to traumatize her more by trying to shoe her out as she likes to scale the walls, curtains. I feel like I’m held captive right now. If I wasn’t fearful of Howie getting into her food, I wouldn’t be as stressed. Oh….and I have to leave for a work trip for the next 2.5 days so don’t want my critter sitter dealing with this either! HELP!
