Chump gets 1/2 a unit twice a day. I drew 2 units, I don't think I flicked it off and measured it down to 1/2 a unit. I'm not 100% sure.
When I gave him his shot it didn't feel right, pretty sure I have him the full 2 doses.
His blood sugar was at 11.0 at 8 pm just before his shot.

What's the best course of action here? I've got high carb food and treats etc.

Do you have a spreadsheet we can see?
What type of insulin? Lantus?
What food do toy normally feed.?
Are you able to monitor the cycle?

No spreadsheet.
Lantus insulin
He eats friskies pate
And yes, I've got a monitor.
He's usually in the 9-13range pre shot at 6 hours he's 6-7.

Do you have high carb foods or syrup/honey on hand? Are there any vets open where you live? And how far away is the nearest ER vet?

What type of blood glucose monitor do you have? How long has it been since you gave the shot?

Sorry for all the questions, but without a spreadsheet of previous data, we are running a bit blind and need some more info.

Yep, I've got high carb food and glucose syrup close to hand.
24 hour vet half an hour away. No money at all right now though. Not a great situation.
Contour next test machine thing.
About 2 hours from his shot right now.

Hi, I have sent you a PM (Private Message) with the details I need to set up your Spreadsheet and Signature. Look for it in the Inbox at the top right corner of this page.
Will be great if you can respond when you have time in between tests.

OK, until the spreadsheet is up, this is what we have:

PMPS (PM preshot) 11.0
+2 (2 hours later) 10.8

Since Lantus onset's typically from 2-3 hours after the shot, that +3 should really help us decide if you did give too much insulin. BTW, you aren't the first. :bighug:

@Chumpsterthecat
Dave…can you let me know when you have given Chump some food please?
Also would you get another BG reading at +3.5 please.
that is 1/2 hour after the last BG test.
I would like to see how fast the BG is dropping now the onset of insulin has started.

He's pretty good with food, I'm pretty sure he'd eat kibble or temptations under any circumstances. I might struggle to get him to eat friskies pate again later.

I've got gravy food, kibble and treats on standby.

OK. I would give him another low carb snack and test again at +4. Is that OK Dave?
And are you able to keep the spreadsheet up to date please?
If you don’t know how to add the 1/2 hour BGs in I will tag @Bandit's Mom to do it for you so you can see what needs to be done.:)

PMPS (PM preshot) 11.0 (198)
+2 (2 hours later) 10.8 (194) Snack Low Carb
+3 7.2 (130) snack low carb
+3.5 6.1 (110) snack low carb
+4 5.7 (103)

Looks like it could be slowing down a bit.
I think another low carb snack of the salmon pate and then test again +4.5.
Are you OK with that?

Yeah, I don't know how to add the 3.5.
Hi Dave, I've added the data for +3.5 in your SS. It goes in the same cell as +3. It's a bit of a pain because you have to fill in the colour manually, as well as the numbers in the US sheet for that cell. The formula for the US sheet does not work when you have anything other than a number in the World sheet. To get US mg/dl you multiply the World mmol reading by 18. Don't worry about this for tonight. You have a lot on your plate. I can input any half hour readings in the SS for you.

Btw, are the readings in the SS for 1/1 today's readings entered by mistake?

Yeah, maybe. I'm not that great with these things and it's hard on a cell phone. I'll take a look but I'm getting pretty tired for some reason.

+4.5 hours 5.9
PMPS (PM preshot) 11.0 (198)
+2 (2 hours later) 10.8 (194) Snack Low Carb
+3 7.2 (130) snack low carb
+3.5 6.1 (110) snack low carb
+4 5.7 (103) low carb snack
+4.5 5.9 (106) no snack

Looks like he may have slowed right down. I would not give another snack now but I would test again +5 and then we can get on the hourly tests if needed.
Are you happy with that?

I had just decided to feed him when you messaged me. Probably half an hour after the 4.3.
He ate half a teaspoon of pate and then probably close to a teaspoon of fancy feast gravy lovers (as you suggested something higher carb). I tested him 3 mins after he finished eating.

Ok good to know.
I think we should test again in 30 minute from the last test to see that he is not dropping again.

Yeah, will do. I'd better make some coffee.

Thank-you so much for going through this with us tonight, Chumpster and I are super grateful for your support and guidance.
