I took a sample of Panzer's urine into the vet this afternoon, he is negative for a UTI. She did say his Leukolytes were 500 +++ but that is normal for a diabetic cat?

I was thinking about giving Panzer an increase a few days ago & then all of a sudden his #s were looking really good again. He's in the 200s right now, but it seems like he drops into good #s on his PMPS cycle? Should I increase @PMPS or give it one more cycle? Sunday is my birthday & I'm going to my sons to see my grandkids that I haven't seen since July. I will be gone for several hours after his + 6 AMPS feeding so I won't be able to test until PMPS. Also my daughter is coming tonight for test feed & shoot, so he may end up getting a fur shot. I don't know how to tell her how far to stick the needle in because I just do it, no tenting just put the needle in while he's eating.

I noticed the other day when I was giving Panzer & Spook there baby food with slippery elm with bark that there was a little bit of blood in Spooks bowl. I tried to look at his teeth but wasn't successful. I've also noticed that Spook has bad breath sometimes. I know this is a sign of CKD? What are some other signs? I have pet insurance on him but I'm not sure if it covers dental & bloodwork. I think it's emergency only.

So she said there were lots of leukocytes in his urine sample? Leukocytes are white blood cells so I am really uncomfortable with him having that many white cells in his urine, which can indicate infection. I would feel better if they sent the urine out for a culture (sorry to say that!)

As for Spook, he may have a dental problem. It's more likely that he has a bad tooth with the bad breath and a little blood that you saw. Does he do anything odd when he eats (like turn his head in a certain direction or anything?) I've even had cats whose teeth just fell out (or were resorbed and just disappeared at least by the time we looked at them) and they never gave any indication that anything was wrong in their mouths. But if you saw some blood and his breath is bad, you should get his mouth looked at by the vet (again, sorry to say that!) I feel your pain. I have been at the vet every day this week except one (and that was yesterday when I took foster kittens over to the rescue lady's house to get an FVRCP shot and combo tested.) Ugh.

Anyway, bad breath associated with kidney disease in cats is usually only in a cat with super high BUN. You're smelling the uremic toxins. Some people say it smells like ammonia (or urine.) If it's just sort of foul smelling... probably the tooth problem.

Ugg I wish I would have known that about the leukocytes before I went. The vet wasn't in & the vet techs are all at a training convention in Florida so one of the receptionist checked the urine. I asked about a culture if he still had a UTI & she said they don't do it in house but could send it to the lab to get tested. I will just get another clean catch on Monday & take it up there.

As for Spook, he takes longer to eat than Panzer does, but I haven't noticed anything unusual about him turning his head. He does glance at Panzer several times while he's eating to make sure Panzer is eating but other than that he's fine. His breath smells like cat food breath. So he probably needs his teeth looked at, I will call his pet insurance company & see if they cover dental, because as you know I'm about to be off work for my surgery & I'm going to be broke! My monthly house said even if I can't come she's still paying me but that's not until February 23rd. I told my client today that gets her house cleaned every other Friday that one of my clients was paying me for a week regardless but I was going to let them all decide if they want to pay me for a week or not, she didn't say anything but it's out there for her to decide & I plan on telling all of them the same thing I told her. So maybe I will make a little bit of $. I'm not worried about losing any of them because they know they can trust me & that I do a good job. Only 2 of them are fairly new the rest of them I've been cleaning for, for anywhere from 3-8yrs.

I do think he needs that increase. I think you have the wiggle room to do it and still keep him safe. Of course, if we say that he will try to make fools of us all! It was on the 15th of January that he had that good green all day and into the night. Since you can test up until +6 in the a.m. cycle on Sunday, I think it will be okay. It may be tricky for your daughter to draw up a 3.75 unit dose, but when she's shooting and you are in the hospital you can just probably make the dose on the half unit line.)

Yes it will & she gave him a fur shot last time LOL. Hopefully he will get a decrease within the next couple of weeks, but his numbers could be wonky because of the leukocytes. He will definitely be getting a decreased amount for when I have my surgery because she will probably only test before giving him insulin. I'm going to ask her to test before feeding which that would only be one extra test +6 PMPS on February 3rd (the day/night of surgery)when I'm still in the hospital because 2 of the times that she tests it's shot time & feeding time & just the one other feeding. My ex roommate is going to feed @+6 on the day that I come home from the hospital unless I'm home before that.

One of our vets was at a Vet Conference in Florida this week too. I think it was in Orlando. A friend of mine also said that some of the vets in their office were at a conference in Florida as well. I would not trust what the receptionist said about the leukocytes. Just get them to send it out to a lab for culture next week.

Hmm it must be a country wide conference. Okay I will. Tayla canceled for tonight but is coming for tomorrow's PMPS shot. I gave him 3.75 units. He's being awful picky about eating tonight had to put fortiflora on his PMPS meal. I just thought of something, I gave him the new PHOS FOCUSED weruva Chicken formula puree last night @ PMPS feeding for the first time last night. I don't know why it would affect his #s today though. He loved it but Spook wouldn't touch it so I gave him the flavor that Panzer has been refusing for 2wks now & of course he loves it. I have so many half cans of food in the refrigerator right now it's not even funny :arghh: picky little brats

Spook loves the one Panzer hates & Spook hates the one Panzer loves is what I meant to say LOL I'm taking a nap until +4

I'm watching Spook eat after refusing yet another flavor of weruva:arghh: & I've noticed that he eats a little & turns his head to the side & chews quite a bit. I'm assuming it's his teeth. I'm going to try & take a look i his mouth when he's done eating.

Well he was not eating his favorite flavor of fancy feast without me continually putting him back in front of the bowl, so I put mirataz on his ear, it's been awhile since he's had any. I would have to look in my notebook to see the last time he had it. I was unable to look at his teeth, I tried but he wasn't having it. He's been beating Panzer to the test box like every time, I wonder if he's trying to tell me something please no I don't need 2 diabetics :arghh: I've tried testing him & the fartherest I've gotten is poking his ear but not getting any blood, so every time he's gotten in the test box today I've been rubbing his ear & he let's me, I will try giving him treats for letting me rub his ears starting tomorrow.

So I learned a lesson this morning & I should have known better. I put mirataz on Spooks ear after the +6 PMPS feeding 6hrs later while testing Panzer Spook peed & started excessively meowing, than he pooped & continued excessively meowing. I thought oh my God I am going to have to take him to the emergency vet what is wrong with him. I got done testing shut them both in the cat room, Spook was quiet, I got there Ondansetron & Panzers insulin ready. I went in the room gave them there pill pockets & got there food ready put there food down gave Panzer his shot. They both ate all of there food & Spook was fine after that. I never should have given him mirataz 6hrs before the next feeding lesson learned.

My sister took me out to eat for my birthday that is tomorrow & that was eventful. There was a big fight at a table near by. A drunk lady yelling drinks getting thrown across the table cussing another table of people started sticking up for the drunk lady. The drunk lady was ushered out management was trying to calm everyone down it was crazy!

Tayla came for testing feeding & shot tonight. Panzer was being a turd for testing so I ended up doing the poke to get blood but she did everything else. She drew the insulin up & got the food ready. She started to give the shot to low so I just moved her hand up & she gave the shot then I had her pet where she shot to make sure it wasn't wet & smell her hand:smuggrin: she did good successful shot. I told her she still needs to do it a couple of more times to practice before my surgery.
