Buddy is still constipated (3.5 days) but his BG came way down this afternoon on Day 1 of 6.5 units! (first dose)

Question: If this is not a fluctuation, and he continues trending down, what is recommended for his dosage tonight? In other words, is it possible that a single dose of 6.5 would work so quickly, or is it more plausible that this may be a lag effect from his 6.0 dose kicking in (last three days)?

Thanks.

Mike

Buddy's mom here.

His PMPS is 152.

Is it safe to continue with the 6.5 unit dose? He came down 200 points from this morning.

With TR you can shoot anything over 50

I totally understand this as a generic rule and our question wasn't whether to shoot - it was whether to stick with 6.5 units - but, we did. Our circumstances here seem a bit unique for following a one-size-fits-all rule, because his numbers plummeted after a single shot with a dose increase - so perhaps he was coming down from the prior three days of 6.0. Back in October, that is basically what happened - it took him four days to come down on 6.0, and he plummeted into the 70s (feline number.)

This morning's +2 was 298 and +11.5 (pmps) was 154 ... the lowest we measured from AMPS to PMPS by a couple hundred points difference. We have made a lot of mistakes previously and want to make sure we don't make any critical mistake here.

Update: Our new +2 is 202. We are going to test again at +6

Sorry I didn’t get to reply last night. Sometimes a cat responds immediately to an increase. Other times it can take 4-6/cycles. If you get a response the first cycle great PROVIDED YOUNCAN MONITOR as late in the cycle as needed.

As it turns out, his numbers trended higher in the AM and +6 overnight was 298. But he is still constipated (day 4), and just came back from the vet, so his numbers will be thrown off today.

Please start a new condo each day. Otherwise it’s easy for your posts to not get proper attention. I hope the blue continues.

Sorry I didn't see your tag. As Elise said, you can shoot lower numbers if you see them. You reduce he dose when he earns a reduction by going under the reduction point.

I am trying to figure out about this day back in October. Was it the 24th? We have no idea what the preshot number was on that day and we don’t really know anything about the previous night(s) either. It is possible that he was bouncing at the time of the increase and then broke the bounce. It’s always a good idea not to increase until they’ve had time to clear the bounce (up to six cycles from the low number or steep drop that may have triggered a bounce.). But since data was slim at that time we don’t know. Now that you are getting much more regular tests then you can have a much better idea of what is going on. I only mention this because I know you have mentioned this incident before and have been concerned about what happened.

Correction, it's perfectly fine to increase when they are bouncing. You just don't want to increase on the particular cycle that they are clearing the bounce. More detail in this thread Protocols: Myths Debunked, see post #17.
