Hi Bron and Suzanne

I hope you both had great holidays. I am now back from the UK and started checking Kaz again this morning but I am not sure if I am supposed to get a new spreadsheet started for the new year and then I'm not sure how to link it to the google page.
I can keep using what I have.
I may try and backfill the prior days as I know she used the Libra button.
My understanding that Kaz has been on 2 units for the entire time I left and today his reading was 256 which isn't terrible considering he's not being monitored.
Both cats look like they lost weight which is a good thing but poor Kaz has two huge bald spots on his back where he was shaved.

Do either of you know if I can use Vaseline or som other cream to help him as it looks really red and chapped.

Hi @Claire and Kaz welcome home! So glad your back & I bet Kaz & your other baby are glad that momma is home & glad to be back at home. It sounds like the cat sitter wasn't to great. Not getting preshots or skipping insulin whatever she did that's just crazy!I mean I understood that they lost weight. They probably weren't comfortable with her, but shaving spots on him & them being red & chapped. I would think that you could use pure coconut oil or Vaseline on the spots, but let's see what Suzanne or Bron have to say.

Coconut oil I have that. Not sure she skipped any shots in fact I know she did not. She asked me about Christmas Day as she had plans and was going to miss a shot but I know she sent in another of her vet technician friends to do the shot. She told me there were a couple days she did ear pricks as the button was not working. I think that even though she was a vet technician she was new to diabetes. She texted me most days with pictures and a couple times when she had concerns. I had to explain the difference between the Libra button and animal monitors as she thought the numbers registered too low on a couple occasions. I think she was generally concerned for the cats and I know she tried to spend quite a bit time with them. It was irritating as I wanted her to post the numbers because I probably would have had her increase the dosage based on the numbers I have seen.

Unfortunately there is not a lot choice due to Kaz's diabetes so just finding someone to take them was a relief. I am probably going to use her with my next trip as I prefer them being with someone versus on their own in the house. Sam was actually the bigger problem as he was petrified and peed all over one of her beds. He's never been out the house except for vet visits. He was ok by day 18/19 as I was coming home. Hoping they may do better next time especially if they are at the same place. Plus both cats refused to eat for couple days and it was lucky she had the appetite stimulant. All in all I think she had her hands full with the two of them and did quite well.

I had to trust that they were ok as I had a terrible time in the UK and would not have been much help to her anyway. My Mum (92 years old) got COVID which came out on Christmas Day and she was ill. She would have been hospitalized if I was not home. Luckily my brothers wife has a breathing machine for her condition which is the same as those with COVID get put on in the hospital so my brother brought that over. It was extremely scary as I was on my own with her for 14 plus days as my other brother could not come in the house due to his wife's condition. Plus I was looking after my other brother who needed help daily with food/clothes/cleaning/etc.

Just happy my mother did not die and is now recovering although still poorly. Now my brother can enter the house so he's coming in daily (since I left) and I try to call 2-3 times a day to check in.

COVID is no joke to the elderly.

More exhausted now than when I left.

Claire I am so sorry you had such a bad time in the UK. It must have been very stressful for you. Thank goodness you were there for your mother. I hope things improve for her.
Covid certainly is a nightmare for the elderly or those with other conditions.
