01/04 Blue 158 +5 137 PMPS 158 +8 133

From yesterday:
I mentioned somewhere I had only a few test strips left before I picked up order at vet. Used them on Eddie. Anyway, now his PM +8 203, which suggests to me he had a stressful time in the carrier and at the vet even though he is so chill you'd never know it.
Have you considered getting a human meter as a backup device? It would be good to have a meter you can use with strips you can buy locally at most pharmacies. I'm not saying switch (unless you want to save money), but as a back up for when you cannot get your AT strips. Availability (or lack thereof) is another reason people switch to human meters. His PM+8 203 you see as stress, but stress should have been over as a factor by then. Another possible explanation is that he went lower during the day yesterday. Data will tell you what happened.

What human meter would you recommend here in Canada? In any case, I'm going to have to reconfigure testing times as I'm back to teaching next week (and meetings on campus) and won't always be able to test.

P.s. I should also note that Blue still has to take the new antibiotic for the antibiotic resistant bacteria they found (trace) in that culture. I'm picking that up today and will post name of antibiotic. So, he still may have a trace of infection...

The Freestyle Lite is quite similar to the AT, and needs the same size blood drop. But it's been a while since I've looked at them. Really, you just need to find something that needs a reasonably small blood drop, easy to get strips, and economical strips.

I hope the new antibiotic takes care of things. If it does, he insulin needs may drop - hence the need for a bit more monitoring when you can.

I'll check out the pharmacy next time I'm in for another meter. Do they read the same as the AT? That is, will I be able to compare readings?

Picked up Blue's antibiotic: Doxycycline 1.0ml BiD (14 days). I'm also giving a small amount of probiotic, S. Boulardii.

The AT or other pet meters won't give you the same numbers as a human meter. Think of it as Celcius vs. Farenheit. Both measure temperature, but the scale is different. Unlike those two ways of measuring temperature, there is no conversion of the numbers from one to the other. In general, in higher numbers the AT reads even higher, in the lower numbers they are closer together. Our dosing methods use human meter numbers. You don't really need to compare the readings.

If the number range on the spreadsheets are for human meters, does that mean that Eddie's high AT numbers would not be as high on a human meter? That's not quite the Celsius/Farenheit situation because at least with those two, heat or cold is the same and there's a conversion formula. I'm concerned to get a human meter and really confuse the issue unless, of course, as you point out, the low range is closer in both meters. Wonder why that is...
