I was hoping someone could check my spreadsheet and give me some feedback. We were really low last night at shot time so i skipped. Is it looking like we're on our way to another low number tonight? What would I do in this situation if she's low again, reduce the amount of insulin? Thanks and I appreciate any feedback.

UPDATE: Welp, we're at 207 now at +10 so hopefully we'll be at a good number at shot time tonight. So far in my testing, she's been all over the place and I'm so confused as to what's good or bad as far as numbers. There hasn't been any consistency or trends, is this just a product of being unregulated? What would be an indication that its to much or to little insulin?

As a side note, I wanted some additional feedback. I asked the vet today what to do in the event she's low again tonight at PS (a different vet as my regular wasn't there) and he suggested this. BS at <150 - no shot. 150-250 - 1U. >250 give normal 2U. Does this sound right?

I'm going to tag a couple of prozinc users so they can answer your questions & check your spreadsheet @FrostD @Suzanne & Darcy

Wendy gave you some advice in your other thread. Yes, what the vet listed sounds good. It's always trial and error at first, so we usually recommend a partial dose that 25-50% of your normal dose. Sometimes as low as 10% if the preshot is quite low but you don't want to skip.

Whenever you shoot a number that's lower than usual, always good to get more tests to see how it goes. (1) helps keep kitty safe, and (2) lets you know how you may need to adjust the strategy going forward

Thanks for the response. It good to know that you agree what the vet says. If you look at my spread sheet, I've given the full 2U twice when she was at 211 and 212 respectively and both those times, then she was low late in both those cycles, So maybe I should have given the 1U as suggested by the vet? But its a bit contradicting that the one time she was 171 at PS and I gave the full dose but then she was at 322 the next PS. So its confusing to me.

Additionally, her ps tonight was a whopping 468. So in just under 2 hours it jumped from 207 to 468?? Is it normal to have a spike like that? That just seems huge in a short period of time. She wasn't given any food. Just drives me crazy not knowing why the numbers are what they are.

Looking at my spreadsheet, does anything jump out to you?

The spreadsheet looks a lot like that of a newly diagnosed cat. Her body has to get used to the new hormone (insulin) and you can see numbers range a lot at first until her body is used to working with the Prozinc. She's been on insulin less than a week. Plus you have her bouncing in reaction to lower numbers than she's used to. As for the jumps at the end of the cycle - seen worse in my own cat. One thing that can make the numbers higher at the end of the cycle is if you feed her after nadir, when the insulin effect is wearing off.

Thanks for the response. Fwiw, she’s actually been on insulin since 12/13 but only started testing last week. They started her on 1u then upped it to 2u last week when I started testing.

The only food she got was a small freeze dried chicken piece after the +8 test, otherwise nothing after that. I was just surprised to see it jump that much so quickly.
