Hi all, I’m new to this forum. My girl cat got diabetes and struggling to give insulin as she knows the time she get it. So she hides. And if I try to pull her neck / back skin she is running. Is there any spot on the cat body we can give insulin without pulling skin. Please help

You can shoot the scruff, side of chest, side of belly, side of flank....wherever your kitty is comfortable and you have the least chance of doing a fur shot.

Many people give the shot when their cat's head is in the food bowl. You don't need to pull hard and can also try the technique where you just roll the skin. The picture and description are in this post: Testing and Shooting Tips

Also, remember treats! You want to do your best to reward your cat for putting up with your poking her with sharp objects. Treats may help. Most of the members here use a freeze dried protein (e.g., freeze dried chicken) since there are no carbs in protein. Alternatively, cooked chicken, cheese, etc. can work.

Because my mobility is somewhat limited by wheelchair use, it was imperative that Newman be cooperative in his treatment. A friend suggested that I offer him a treat at the location I had chosen for best access when I did not do anything to him but give the treat and pet him, briefly touching his ears and gently pinching and releasing the scruff. After just a few times of doing this, he changed from a growling cat to one who shows up at test and treat time almost like clockwork. I also found that the less I restrained him, the more still he remained.

Thank you for sharing your experience I really appreciate

What is the best food for diabetes cats ?
Most of us feed our cats 6% carbs or less
I will give you a food link to click on
Most members feed Fancy Feast Classic Pate or Friskies which ate 2 or 3 % carbs
First of all since you are now feeding the Royal Canin food which is too high in carbs, if you plan on switching to low carb you DEFINITELY need to start home testing because switching to a low carb food can drop the BG by 100 points
It's the only way to keep your kitty safe

You need to transition to low carb food slowly
I'm going to give you a blue link to tap on because we definitely need information about you kitty
It's called our signature , it's at the end of everyone's post in gray lettering
The link will also explain how to create our spreadsheet and Understanding the spreedsheet where we track our cats BG. If you need help setting it up just ask we have a member who can set it up for you
Until we know all your information about your kitty we then can help you if you want help

Here is a link helping us to help you link. If you noticed, our members have some basic information about their cat's in their signature. This helps us to not pester you by asking the same questions (your cat's name, insulin type, date of diagnosis, etc.) repeatedly. We also have a link to our spreadsheet in our signature. We are very numbers driven. The spreadsheet is a record of your cat's progress. By linking it in your signature, we can follow along and provide feedback should you need the help.

Here is the food chart

If you aren't home testing yet
Always aim for the sweet spot warm the ears up first, you can put rice in a sock and put it in the microwave, test it on the inside of your wrist to be sure it's not to hot, like you would test a babies bottle. You can fill a pill bottle with warm water and roll it on the ears also.Just keep rubbing the ears with your fingers to warm them up

6. As the ears get used to bleeding and grow more capilares, it gets easier to get the amount of blood you need on the first try. If he won’t stand still, you can get the blood onto a clean finger nail and test from there.
When you do get some blood you can try milking the ear.
Get you finger and gently push up toward the blood , more will appear
You will put the cotton round behind his ear in case you poke your finger, after you are done testing you will fold the cotton round over his ear to stop the bleeding , press gently for about 20 seconds until it stops
Get 26 or 28 gauge lancets
A lot of us use the lancets to test freehand not the lancing device
I find it better to see where I'm aiming
Look at the lancet under a light and you will see one side is curved upward, that's the side you want to poke with

A video one of our members posted, she is using a pet meter ,strips too expensive plus you have to code it
A human meter is just fine, most of us use human meters ,that's what our numbers are based on
When you get your meter can you add the name of it to your signature and spreadsheet
