That food is fine. However, the consensus i8s the seafood should not be feed consistently, but only occasionally. Some say that this is due to the mercury in seafood that builds up over time. The Friskies Poultry Platter Turkey and Giblets are good too.

Got it, thanks. Great to know there is affordable cat food that works in this world.

Also, just have to say what an incredible resource this forum is. Thank you Larry & all!

Haven't set it up yet (though I could probably figure something out- there is honey in the house); I'm not home testing yet either. My vet prescribed Lantus based on symptoms and a fructosamine test about a month ago. I've been doing food 2x/day and insulin 2x/day and the improvement has been immediate and dramatic. Bella (the cat) was actually underweight not overweight, so I'd love her to eat as much as possible. I'm hoping with the right food she'll be able to eat between meals as well.
Follow up vet appointment is this week and I'm glad to have this trove of information I can bring to the appointment to ask about! There's a lot to learn.

I would recommend you feed more than twice a day. I know a lot of vets say only twice a day but that is old thinking with the older types of insulin. With Lantus, I would suggest feeding the main meals before the doses and then going 2 or 3 snacks in the first 6 or 7 hours of each cycle. A snack is one of two teaspoons of low cat food.

That is great news for Bella! Thank you.

In case you want to explore more food options (not all are price friendly, though), this is a chart put together by a vet with an interest in feline nutrition. The carbohydrate amounts are included. We consider less than 10% to f low carb although most members feed in the neighborhood of 5%.
