Jackson removed his Libre sensor again mid-morning. I caught him pulling at it, but it was too late, he had it pulled up enough that the filament was out. At least it was only a couple of days early this time, but STILL!! I had it glued fairly well and he took some hair and even skin off. He doesn't like ear sticks, and I will definitely not be able to monitor him anywhere near as closely if I can’t use the sensor - family have already warned me they’re too squeamish and uncomfortable with getting his blood - but I can’t really afford more than one sensor every paycheck (on an ongoing basis at least). That’s a cost choice from love as it is.

I did get one ear stick this morning for the +4. He’s definitely heading down today, which I thought he might - which is why I really want the Libre, for those drop days, he really won’t allow testing as often as required if he starts heading hypo…

Hey!
Not sure if you use goodRX for libres or not but it does help with the cost. The regular libres, a box of two is about $44 with the goodrx app. I usually ask the vet to send the prescription to a Meijer or CVS. The normal Libre I believe doesn't read over 400 though. I noticed the difference in how high the Libre vs Libre2 reads. Also you can get a free Libre off the company website. They'll only send you one but free is free! Hope this helps some!

Hi @KellyMac , thanks for the suggestion, I have tried GoodRX but they say the prescriber has to have an NPI number on file for that or any coupon to work? Apparently most vets do not have NPI numbers. I haven’t found any coupon or discount card that does work, yet, although I have tried several. But if you’re from Wisconsin too… so you know a work around then? Half or even quarter price (as $44 for 2 would be) would be AWESOME.

Also doesn’t the company want a prescription or valid order for a human in order to send a free one? Honestly I haven’t tried that yet, I figured it wouldn’t work.

How high does the Libre2 read, out of curiosity? The Libre 14 day does scan readings at least to 500 (though we haven’t quite reached it… very close… he was 498 once) and has worked for us so far, but the graphing tops out at 350. A graph that displayed higher numbers as something other than a flatline at 350 would be nice. (Even though we are now working on keeping him under 350.)

@Bandit's Mom , I suspect a shirt or collar would completely piss him off and shorten the lifespan even more. Up until now, putting it behind his shoulder/elbow has worked… this new one I moved back one rib (I make sure to inject the placement needle in between ribs, not on top of one) in hopes that he may not reach it quite as easily. Or he may reach it easier. Only time will tell. I could also try moving it up just a hair more, but I hesitate to inject too close to his spine.

I guess either he’s starting to get really annoyed with them, or the regrowing hair was extra itchy, or he’s starting to feel better enough overall to care more. I just hope we can find a way to keep him from doing it on a regular basis.

I especially feel horrible for the bare patch where he yanked out his fur - and gave himself a scab where the glue didn’t let go! I was going to take it off all nice and slow for him with oil, leave him his regrown fur and especially his hide!!

Apparently he didn’t go down as hoped for after all… back up to 349 now. Sigh.

I’m sure the stress of having it put back on didn’t help.

The 349 was by ear stick - the Libre isn’t real accurate for a few hours, it said 379.

I also managed to poke my own thumb, so I figured may as well check my sugar while I’m at it too lol… 110. Hmm… now, that’s not a fasted glucose; still…

I've also had pharmacists say that I can't use it because of the prescriber ID, but there's a section where they can put the vet ID and it works. I called GoodRX after my first encounter of them saying they couldn't do it because it was a pet, and they explained that it will , since it's a human 'medication' there's no reason they can't do it, and if I had issues again with the pharmacist to have the pharmacist call and goodRX will walk them through it there. It was quite an ordeal the first time but it saved me over a hundred dollars. The Libre 2 does up to 500 I believe also. You're right the Libre is 10 days, but like your cat, mine only tolerates it for a little over a week.
For the free one from the website I think how I did it was by saying he was a minor and I was the guardian. It was a really easy form. I was surprised they didn't require more proof or info.

I will have to try the website if it’s that easy. And find out my vet’s ID. Certainly would be worth it. Thank you for the advice!

Jack normally till now has left the sensors on the full 14 days… but the last couple he’s given me some trouble. This one made it 12 days… the last one only made it 4 (but I hadn’t glued that one well, so that was half my fault).
