Help, please. I need direction.

I know I've shot a low PS before, but not sure if ever this low.

Do I shoot now or just delay?
Now I'm off schedule.

Leo sees the vet today as we need a refill on his Glargine. I am not out yet, but pulled the last Pen a couple weeks ago. Orig script filled Jan 8, 2022.

This vet originally recommended SLGS, but I transitioned to TR.

Meanwhile I am stalling not just Leo, breakfast & shot, but the other two kitties awaiting breakfast. Go ahead with breakfast? Or wait and test in a few minutes? Shoot now?

Thanks!

Stalled & tested again, and now it's 64 (45 min later). He's eating now.

For some reason, I'm nervous about the full dose. Maybe because I'm seeing the vet today who was opposed to TR.

When do you have to leave for the vet appointment? How long after the shot?

Do you have to go into details with the vet about dosing protocols? Does s/he have access to his SS? You can always turn off access and say you are following SLGS. Many of us have just agreed to whatever the vet says and come home and followed TR! He is your kitty and you know what's good for him.

With TR you can shoot if over 50. If you have supplies and can monitor shoot.

Gave him his shot. Not sure if 64 is the lowest, but I did it at a slightly lower dose. I think I'm just freaked out Leo sees the vet today for labs and to get a refill script, and this vet felt SLGS was the protocol to use vs TR. I ended up transitioning to TR after frustration with SLGS.
Leo recently experienced some under 50 BG. I lowered the dose only one of the two because the second time he wasn't eating enough. Little stinker does not like Friskies Turkey & Giblets; in fact, the other two kitties did not like it much either. So I felt the second under 50 was because he didn't eat enough.

Thank you, all, so much.

+5 is when we leave for the vet.

I previously gave them the SS link, but don't think they use it as the front office will ask me to share a screenshot. Ummm... this SS is quite long. If they ever used the SS link, I doubt it, but who knows. They stopped communicating and it wasn't until I requested a refill from Costco and they contacted the vet for a refill approval that they called me that new labs and appointment was needed first. It never occurred to me to go to the vet twice a year, but I guess that is the norm. Leo is 12.5 yrs old.... I was definitely set straight on the FB group that Leo needs to be seen more than once a year. Guess I was used to our dogs, we only went one time a year. Sorry for the ramble!
Thank you!

It's really annoying that vet require twice-a-year visits when most of them do nothing to help our cats and are so poorly informed to begin with... Hope the visit goes well and you can just get your refill and be left alone for another six months!

Thank you! It's all quite a juggling act! I have really bad balance, LOL.

Still need to shower & all, and want DH to go get Bach Rescue Remedy for pets (Stress) to help Leo and the other two kitties to not be annoying when Leo returns home with alien smells on him. Plus get tests I'm and hopefully no under 50 numbers!

Oh, BTW, my BG before breakfast was 99! Even with the stressful morning. I'm not diabetic, but after Covid, October 2021, my blood sugars have been elevated, especially in the morning. Not at a diabetic level, but definitely higher than 99. Just yesterday it was 116. It's been higher, but to see a 99 this morning is awesome!

Then Leo's 56 & 64.... dreaming things are turning around. ♡
I'm setting myself up for disappointment, I know, but wouldn't it be nice to have normal BG for both of》us, without insulin for Leo?! :D

Remember the smile and nod technique so you get your RX. Do what you need to do to get what you need. Vetty vines.

& @Bandit's Mom,
2.1=55; considering today's vet appointment at +5, any suggestion of jumping to feed a higher carb food now, like 10%, or not--only if HC is needed.... as another BG is needed considering the 55 at +2.1?
They will be doing labs today.

Hi Joni, only just saw this. Did you feed higher carbs?

Hi!

55 +2.1 LC
52 10%mwLC
51 +4.5 10%mwLC, then some HC
Vet appointment at +5.... she detected a heart murmur she didn't hear last December when Leo's labs confirmed the diabetes. With Leo's numbers today, she felt a dose decrease would be needed. She didn't push too hard, but let it known they were available for dosage input. She was quite sweet today. I was expecting a stern approach after this 11 month experience. I sure hoped Leo would go into remission. Guessing he is getting further away from that possibility.

It's almost three hours until PMPS. (I overslept today.) Should I get a BG now?

Sorry Joni, I had gone to bed. It's great that the vet was sweet and didn't give you a hard time. I would not reduce again. This is still the 1.75U depot affecting his numbers. The depot takes 4-6 cycles to adjust. By tomorrow you would know what the 1.5U is doing for him.

Thanks. You mean you actually sleep? LOL :joyful: I understand! My turn now!

I think it was the 2.0 on AM of 9/26, that started all this.I thought I held too long at 1.75, but ended up at 48 (+6.1). Even though dropping. 25 for PM, he still had a 49 at +4.75.

After today's 1.5 for both AM & PM, maybe it will show which direction.

A couple notes now that the action is long gone. First, it would be nice to have Leo's name on the subject line.;)
and this vet felt SLGS was the protocol to use vs TR
Only TR is a published protocol. SLGS is a dosing method that was developed on FDMB many years ago. Lots of kitties have followed it, but it's not been formally studied and tested by researchers.

Did you vet say what level the heart murmur was? Or what next steps should be? Some kitties just have a benign heart murmur that is related to aging. Neko's heart murmur was that at first, but given her background (acromegaly and Maine Coon cross), the vet suggested an echocardiogram to make sure.

I did forget to add Leo's name! Out of practice, for sure.
Thanks for the reminder.

I think the vet agreed to SLGS because I shared with her the info from here. IDK
Yesterday she felt going under 100 was dangerous. I think she's used to the pet meter. In fact she said she could get me one. Of course I prefer the ReLion Premier Classic meter & strips.

My sister asked almost the same question! "What are they doing about it?"
Labs & urinalysis for now. Depending on results from mini-chem labs may dictate other labs.
I think she called it slight murmur..... something to watch?
Now I'm not sure!

I'll definitely have more interface once the lab results are in, plus I need to drop off Leo's urine sample. Trying to get him to 'go' this morning, but..... our two other cats need to stop bothering him under the closed door. :cat::cat: I let him out to get a +1 bite of food. Next thing I know, Leo and Andy zoom up the stairs.
