Good morning everybody! My boy's BG was 110 this morning. Ugh! I was fortunate enough to get a visit with a new vet this afternoon, so he is getting checked out for infection or problems with his teeth. It is Thanksgiving week so it is a mercy that I got an appointment at all. Yet I am not excited at the possibility of explaining to a new vet why a BG of 110 alarms me...it took a couple of visits for the last one to decide I was not just a weirdo with a spreadsheet, haha. I'm sure he will agree to check for infections regardless.

It is cold and rainy here. I hope everyone is having a warm, happy Monday!

I also wanted to add a question. Is it possible that his elevated BG is because I'm feeding him too much? It's cold so I'm trying to provide as much food as they want to eat. Squirrel gets fed more frequently, and Ben expects parity. He's not asking for more food, and does not eat it all, but it's more frequent. Could that be a problem? Could the chill also be a problem?

How long before the 110 did he eat? If you can get a test 3 hours after food, you will know if food brings his numbers back into green. The pancreas should produce insulin in response to food which will lower the BG.

Hi Bhooma. :cat:

He stopped eating at least two hours before his AMBG.

+3 is 88. So his pancreas is still working. What does this say about his feeding schedule? How should I tweak it, if at all?

It’s not a rush. You can give this a couple days but remember Thursday is the beginning of a long weekend. It sounds like it could wait to me.

Great, I will do that. If things don't go well there is always the emergency vet. The worst thing that is happening now is that he is still annoyed that I put my fingers in his mouth. Thanks for your help.

After a two-hour fast, the boy's bg is 101. If you're from California you know that's a great freeway, but it's a bit of a tease as far as bg values go. Will test again tonight.

Try and get a test 3 hours after food. Does he get small meals through the day and night? Food can bring down the BG for cats with functioning pancreas.

His +3 is 85. He gets meals through the day and night but they tend to be larger than when he was getting insulin. Is it possible I'm feeding him too much?
