He will get there. Meanwhile enjoy the occasional night off to tank up on sleep! :-)

As for reduction points, I’m still in the increase phase, so I admit I haven’t thought about it a lot yet. I’m open to it, as long as he doesn’t go too low. I have already learned that there’s no way I can get him down into really low numbers - he goes into symptomatic hypoglycemia below 50. (He was limp and staring blankly at 46, which was really scary.) So I’m wary of getting too close to that point, especially if he decides to go low while I’m gone some day, and nobody is watching him close enough…
With SLGS the lower reduction point would be only a little lower - say 70 or 80 or somewhere there - the idea being that he gets to spend more time in safe greens and a one-off drop below 90 does not earn him a reduction he might not hold. You could start with 80 as against 90 and that would still give you a little room for increase in a couple of days. If you are comfortable with that.

Yeah I do think that as long as he’s not going dangerously low, more time in greens would be better. I would agree with that, especially about not reducing with just one or two dips below 90, because he certainly might not hold it.

But that’s a matter of eventuality. Right now, I’m just trying to figure out how high his dose needs to go in order to get out of pink! (And yet not crash either.)

…and as I spend all this energy worrying about him, he just comes and snuggles up in my lap and blinks at me and purrs to tell me to relax. In his world, all is well. My sweet boy…

Your reduction point will also determine whether you increase or hold the dose. Dosing is based on nadirs. Ignore the bounces. With a reduction point of 80 and nadirs in the low 100s, you have room to increase.

Ahhhh! Now I see the connection. Thank you, I wasn’t thinking of it that way. Makes sense once you explain it. As I’m now understanding it, basically, I really have to lower the reduction point from 90, otherwise Jack may never stabilize much lower than he is.

Not that I was against lowering it anyway, as long as his BG stays in safe-for-him ranges. 80 would be a good place to start, and if he shows stability enough over time, I’m open to 70. The thought of 60 makes me nervous because it’s too close to 50 - given his past reaction to <50. But I guess it will depend on how stable his BG turns out to be once it spends more time in lower numbers, with less bouncing.

Let's start with 80. :-) With his history of DKA, we want him to spend as much time as possible in lower numbers.

Do you work Saturdays? I wonder if he is going to give you an active cycle tomorrow morning.
