Hello! Clearly something's shifted over the past week or so, and I think it's a good thing. Getting lots of blue pre-shots. But I've never shot this low, and it makes me nervous. The fact that I shot yesterday at 187 and wake up this morning to 112 makes me nervous that Emma dipped overnight, but perhaps not?

I had told myself that I would shoot anything over 140, but that was me erring on the side of caution. I am home today to monitor. So should I shoot as usual, with the new 0.10U dosage? (Maybe I'm not doing a good job of getting only 0.10.)

Spread out the breakfast more than usual - got it! Thank you. She does usually get a HC snack at +2, but I'll spread it out earlier.

@Bandit's Mom I have just a big-picture question. Am I right in thinking that Emma appears to be healing and doing better? I know that fewer cats reach remission with SLGS, and she is about 4.5 months out from diagnosis, so I was starting to think that perhaps she wouldn't reach remission. She probably had been with diabetes for 4-6 months before we caught on. But now she's taking such little insulin, and I still have more dry food I could cut out...

Any chance you can slowly eliminate the kibble altogether?
Yes, indeed. That's what I've been trying to do over the past 3 months or so. She responds very strongly (close to hypo, or hypo) anytime I reduce kibble and replace with wet food. So I was reducing 1g of kibble (twice a day) every week or two weeks. If I continue at this rate, it would be around Christmas when she has no more kibbles.

I posted above at the same time as you did. Emma seems to have flipped a switch recently and I would not rule out tight regulation or even ultimate remission yet. It would be a big help if you could stop the kibble and switch to a 100% low carb canned diet. I knew a cat who went into remission after low carb kibble was stopped. For some cats even low carb kibble spikes their blood sugar.

Are low numbers the only reason you are still continuing with kibble? if yes, you can always substitute kibble with higher carb wet food. If she is allergic to gravy, you can add honey or syrup to LC wet food to increase the carb%.

Thank you. Emma's kibble is definitely high carb, and frankly it's infuriating. She has (had??) IBD so we were prescribed hydrolyzed protein kibble, but which also needed to be paired with prednisolone. Both of these things have been raising her blood sugar and it's no wonder she got diabetes. I've been able to reduce both the kibble and reduce frequency of prednisolone and she's been requiring less and less insulin!

I don't know whether something in the HP kibble is helping her digest, which is why I've been keeping a small amount. But you're right that I could try switching to HC wet food. I'd just need to find something that she for sure will not be allergic to. It's a good idea to add syrup to LC wet food to increase the carb%; I hadn't thought of that.

Would it be wiser to keep my strategy of slowly reducing the kibble and replacing with LC wet food? Or should I try to cut it out a bit faster and find/make higher carb wet food?

76 @ +5. Gave dry food instead of wet food to prevent her from going lower, though this is usually her nadir. Will figure out what this all means tomorrow. :)
