Feeding low protein food at early stages of CKD is the old school of thought. Newer research shows that it's more important to restrict phosphorus than protein. So you want to feed a low carb, low phos (less than 0.5% on a dry matter basis). Low carb is good for diabetes and controlling the diabetes helps the CKD by reducing the strain on the kidneys. Yes — and the ingredients actually look like real food, whereas I’m not so sure about some of the Rx diets. Better yet, Chispa really seems to like them, and she looks great. I used to feel her spine when petting her, but I think the higher protein content has improved her muscle tone. So thank you for the reassurance. :cat::bighug:
