peeing and kidney issues

I focus on one thing and another thing goes wrong. I’m maintaining his GB but he peed out of his box.

I don’t know if it is retaliation for asking him to let me sleep after waking me 20 times during the night or the kidneys are gone. Last time he had CKD, I’d give him Kidney Gold drops and he recovered. Now I’m not sure if that will affect his GB.

Could it be because I gave him freeze dried chicken as snack? Too much protein?

would kidneys recover if I stabilize his GB?

Dear god, thought of his peeing everywhere, vomiting, not eating again makes me wana die.
I haven’t been able to focus on anything else for past year. Either its glaucoma surgery, throwing up blood ( no one knows why), peeing for no reason (no diabetes or kidney issues then) now diabetes and kidney issues.

I’m tired. I’m really tired. I don’t have a life and don’t know what to do with his kidneys?
Please help and tell me what to do. I’m desperate

Hello Elsa. I don't have answers but I can tell you I was in the same situation a few months ago. Bella was peeing on the side of her box, or she vomited, or both. I think being diabetic, they need to pee more and he might also have pain in his legs that make it difficult to climb in correctly. I don't believe in retaliation from cats, I think if he had an accident, it's an accident, whatever the reason. They drink and pee more, it's one of the signs of diabetes. All that should get better as soon as he is well regulated.
It's hard in the beginning. Feeling desperate and even questionning why you are doing that. I think we all went through that at some point! But it will get better. :bighug:

First, take a breath. Learning about and managing your cat's diabetes has a huge learning curve. It's overwhelming and you're at the front end of that learning curve. You have an entire community of people here for support. You do not have to go through this alone.

One of the primary symptoms of diabetes is increased urination. Cats (and humans) drink more and pee more (polyuria and polydipsia) as a result of the diabetes. I'm not sure why you were getting up so frequently at night. If Juju was in the litter box that often, I'd want to be sure he doesn't have a urinary tract infection. UTIs become more common with diabetes because there is glucose in the urine until your cat's blood glucose levels are under relative control. The urinary glucose can be a breeding ground for bacteria.

Cecile has a point. As cats age, just like humans, they can develop arthritis and it can make climbing into the litter box a chore. If it looks like this is the case for Juju, get a litter box that's lower on one side to make it easier for your kitty to enter and exit. If Juju peed near the box, get puppy pee pads and put them under and around the box. If he's developing diabetic neuropathy, starting him on methylcobalamin (methyl-B12 -- one brand of which is Zobaline and is available on Amazon) will help over time.

I doubt that the protein content of what your cat is eating is the culprit. There are lots of cats here who have CKD and are diabetic. They eat the same low carb food as all of the other cats. The big difference is that caregivers do their best to control the phosphorus content of the food.

If your vet ran labs when your cat was diagnoses, there's a tab on your spreadsheet where you can enter the reference ranges and lab values. We can look over the results.

Just an FYI - I think you mean that your insulin is called Caninsulin.

Scoopable litter is the best so the pee/poop is cleaned daily. My cat is 14 diabetic for two years. I also wash the box weekly with Dawn detergent. He is on Vetsulin and Zobaline and doing fabulous! He only eats Fancy Feast flake or pate 3 cans a day. He loves to eat and very energetic. 1/2 can at 1am and 1pmand while cans at 7am and7pm. But this is for a 16 pound Maine coon. Three units of Vetsulin twice a day. I don’t stress him out with testing. Once a week at 2pm. The vet saw him in July ran labs and told me he is doing great and labs were good. He had not seen him in 17 months! I am a diabetic too. It breaks my heart seeing people stressing out the cats testing sugars. That’s why they don’t eat! Vetsulin is fine for cats!

Minnie always peed outside the litter box. She was always an elevator kitty from a young age. Of course diabetes, neuropathy and cardiomyopathy didn’t help any. I know the feeling of desperation and starting to lose your mind all too well. Do whatever you need to do to make it easier on yourself. I resigned to the fact I needed 2 more open litter boxes (she had a hard time climbing in and out of the higher covered ones) in my living room and I got pee pads. I placed the pee pads under the litter boxes with plenty of room on all sides so the pee would land on the pads and not on my hardwood floor. Sure enough Minnie was an avid digger so she’d poke roles in the pads with her nails and I had to double pad. Again, whatever it takes. But the pee pads kept me from having to clean the floor every day and kept me sane

Wow. I had a vet tell me that all the testing was why Minnie wasn’t eating because she didn’t want to get poked and I fired her. This is really bad advice. Just wondering as a diabetic yourself, do you give yourself insulin without testing your own blood sugar?

Sorry to sound so negative but I'm with Ale on this one. Vetsulin /Caninsulin is terrible for cats and not testing them daily is not just inadvisable, it's unethical.
For @elsa&juju2022 , there's a reason for everything and your vet is missing something important. Peeing outside the box could be due to a number of things but I've never known a cat to do it just to get even with someone, it's not in their nature. Have him checked again for crystals, a UTI, a complete blood work up including anemia.
This is not voodoo, it's science that will solve this and bring him back to you and give you back a normal life. Ask for copies of his bloodwork, take photos of them and post them here.
I can feel your desperation, this all seems so unfair after all the effort, love and of course money but the answers will come. Be patient and be vigilant. Make double sure he's not getting into plants, someone else's food, the garbage etc. He's a strictly indoor cat yes?

Are you getting the tags? I also DM you
Hi Bhooma can you please fix Elsa's SS the last 2 cells for the color coding ,she is using the Alpha Trak and it has the BG numbers for a human meter
Thanks Bhooma :bighug::cat:
