10/19 Pippin AMPS 302 ;+4 272; +6 258; PMPS 95

Pippin's PMPS is 95, which is actually way lower than earlier. I really feel like I shouldn't shoot, since he's actually in the green? Does anyone have advice for dosing adjustments?

Edit to add: this is the second day he will have skipped an evening dose. What does this mean?

Sorry nobody has responded yet. I’d not be comfortable shooting that low with the data you have. @Wendy&Neko had good advice for you the other day:

I see you got a 102 tonight, and still gave 5 units. Please leave lots of food out for him tonight and monitor him closely. As Larry said, I think there's a good chance he's going lower between the shots. We suggest to people who are new here, to not shoot if below 200. Eventually, when you are more comfortable testing and have the data to do so, you can lower than no shoot number.

Skipping as often as you have due to low preshots, especially so soon after each other, means the dose is too high. I suspect your recent change in food has something to do with it. How would you like to try 3.0 units tomorrow morning? If that's too low we can get you increasing faster, but I'd rather get to a dose you can shoot twice a day, and go from there.

I like that idea, the fact that he continued dropping so low from 300 almost 12 hours after his dose is telling. I’ll do 3u tomorrow morning and try to test him between +4 and +7 again (twice if I can manage it, but we’ll see how it goes).

So dropping that much in dosage that quick won’t cause issues? I’ve only ever dealt with anti anxiety meds with cats, and I know with that you can’t change doses too quickly with that kind of medicine. Insulin changes are okay, though? Or is there something like side effects I should look out for?

Not if the dose is too high. In fact, keeping a cat on a higher dose than they need runs the risk of them going hypo, a much more life threatening problem. The only caveat to suddenly dropping the dose is if a cat is prone to ketones and/or recently been diagnosed with DKA.

Okay, cool, thank you! I don’t think Pippin has either of those, so we should be good. I’ll make another post in the morning and update then. Hopefully this will get smoother for him soon! :)
