There are no hard and fast rules. Every cat is different and every cycle can be different - especially in newly diagnosed/unregulated cats. We suggest feeding at +1 and +2 for cats who tend to drop hard at onset like Mar Lei does. In active cycles like last night you also want to feed more often to flatten the curve. So a teaspoon of food after every test would be good.I now cant remember if I fed him at plus 2. I def fed him at plus one and every time he gets a test he gets a snack.......but perhaps I left the feed til plus 3 thinking id spread it out. I honestly cant remember. . If I did wait , that was a big mistake right? So basically the best times to feed him are shot time, plus 1 and then plus 2. And then again the same for the evening? so 6 x in the day? I will start a new thread now
Yes, he stays at 2.25U unless he drops below 68 on the AT in which case he earns a reduction to 2U.Are we still thinking of staying at 2.25 tonight?
That is still within the normal range of blood sugar on the ATHe did drop to 76 last night.
No. You stay with 2.25U till he drops below 68. Do not worry about the bouncing. Dosing is based on nadirs and not on preshots or bounces. The best you can do is minimize the diving (and consequently some of the bouncing) by feeding multiple small meals. As his body gets used to lower numbers the bouncing will reduce.Should I have dropped to 2 this morning.
Now at +2 he is 18.6 - bouncing?
Shall I try 2 this evening?
Does AT stand for alpha Trak?Yes, he stays at 2.25U unless he drops below 76 on the AT in which case he earns a reduction to 2U.
Yes. AT is AlphaTrak. And I'm so sorry, I meant 68 and typed 76 instead. Have corrected my previous post. With TR, a newly diagnosed cat (less than a year since diagnosis) earns a reduction if his BG drops below 68 mg/dl on a pet meter.Does AT stand for alpha Trak?
Sorry If I am being a bit slow but I am a bit confused about this waiting til he drops 76 or 68 for a reduction?
Ok perfect. Thank you so much for clarifying.Yes. AT is AlphaTrak. And I'm so sorry, I meant 68 and typed 76 instead. Have corrected my previous post. With TR, a newly diagnosed cat (less than a year since diagnosis) earns a reduction if his BG drops below 68 mg/dl on a pet meter.
Ok brilliant, understood, thank you so much! You can give him the food he didn't eat before if he will eat. You do not want to force the BG down by denying food. In bounce cycles numbers will be on the higher side, anyway.
Yes, I got thatJust to be clear, I didnt withhold as such, he didn't eat it and so behind in his schedule and he went up to sleep before I'd had the chance to give him the last bit. So I wondered if he was kind of not as hungry as usual and if I should follow his lead.
