Test, feed, inject later?

I have a conundrum. In the morning, I have to get up at about 8.30, and be ready for an all-day Zoom training session, starting at 9.30am. The problem is, Footfoot is normally tested, fed, and injected at 10am or shortly after.

Can I a) test her and feed her at 8.30, then inject her at 10am as normal
or should I
b) not test or feed her till it's time to do the normal routine at 10am?

She'll be going crazy for her breakfast. I didn't warn my employers in advance, but I'll sign in early to let them know I will have to take 5 mins out at 10m to inject my cat.

Which would you recommend, a or b?

What I would probably do is get up earlier, give her a little snack more than two hours before her AMPS to ensure it doesn’t affect her number, then feed and inject as usual at 10am. That being said, I am a newbie at this, so let’s see what others say!

Agree with Virginie, just give her as small as snack as you think possible to hold her over to your normal time.

For future reference, you can actually move each shot back by 15 minutes, or one shot a day back by 30 mins. Her numbers are high enough you could probably do everything earlier (assuming preshot higher than 350), but then you're off schedule for a few shots after that

Thanks for suggestions! Is there any medical reason, though, why I can't test and feed at 8.30, and inject at 10am?

Can you do everything around 9am?

ProZinc allows for up to an hour of wiggle room with shot times - it's okay to shoot early if he's high enough to shoot.

ProZinc can potentially last up to 14 hours in some cats - doesn't look like you're getting that kind of duration.

Thanks Shelley. That sounds like my best bet. I could do her injection at about 9.15, then it's only 45mins early and it's done before my training!

In Footfoot's case - at this point in time - no, not really. The only disadvantage is that you're giving her BG a big boost by feeding that far in advance - the prior shot is well worn off, then you're adding fuel to the fire by adding more food without insulin to offset it. One time wouldn't really hurt things overall, just don't want to do it often.

She's been pretty consistent in AM numbers. As Shelley mentioned and I alluded to, you can shoot earlier if she's high enough. In this case, I'd say above 350 (because we've seen she can go from 300s to green at this dose). Below that you can do a one-time reduced dose sort of thing, or just wait for your normal shot time and see if she comes up.

Thanks all. I gave her the dose one hour early, at 9am. What time should I aim to do the PM shot? 9.15, or 9.30pm?

I would do normal time. Shooting late is less of a big deal than shooting early, she just may be a little higher than usual at preshot.

Another day of reds. :-/ Her BG even went up after her PM insulin. I checked again an hour later and it was lower, so I think she'll be OK. I hope to see some pinks and yellows tomorrow!

Also, she threw up her dinner again. I think it might be the HiLife tuna & mackerel that is disagreeing with her. Why did I go and buy a big bulk box of it? :-/
I'm giving her Blink chicken (various pouches) as well - I might stop with the HiLife for a few days and then maybe try 3 parts Blink chicken, 1 part HiLife tuna or something like that. (Blink is so expensive!) Other than that, and the red zone BG readings, she seemed fine; good appetite, without being super-manic-starving, and some very energetic zoomies this evening.

That was a big drop just then. If you can swing it, I'd get a test around maybe +8 tonight. I suspect you may end up with an unusual preshot tomorrow morning, and having one more test before it helps decide what to do at shot time.

That, or she'll stay flat and break the bounce tomorrow would be my guess
