9-22 TYLER AMBG-63 UPDATE ON TYLER'S BLOODWORK I ENTERED IT

Hi guys well I haven't said anything yet but Tyler has been losing weight for no reason
Same food, nothing has changed, eating fine ,nothing has changed

Took him to the vet this morning for blood work
The practice that I go to I used to see Dr Sass ,she was on board with everything I did.
Well about 6 or 7 months ago I found out she left
She worked like a dog 6 days a week all day
The 2 owners are Dr Beeber and Dr Pla
I have been to Dr Beeber in the past like 20 years ago with other cats that I had
He's very good but he's only there 2 days a week
Dr Play 2 days a week, both of them worked half days
Anyway I'm sure Dr Sass had had it asked to be made a partner and they said no. So she left

So I took Tyler this morning and saw Dr Beeber , told him about the weight loss I've been noticing, Tyler was always a big boy
He now weighs 13.80
I've been weighing him like once a week
6-22 got 14.6 7-5 thru 9-12 was staying around 14.4
Weighed him at home on 9-16 and got 13.8 so I guess the vets scale is correct

I'm very very worried !
His brother Perry died of kidney disease 10-6-21 some of you know this
So now I'm worried what if Tyler has it
Maybe his thyroid
Vets checking everything

I know Tyler needs a dental last one was 3-2021
Can't believe how much tarter build up

So I was telling Dr Beeber about our group and how you all helped me get him into remission
He didn't know what TR or SLGS was so I explained it.
I said to him if it wasn't for alll of you he probably never would have gone into remission if I had listened to how Dr Plau does it.
I search thru our site and found it , Dr Plau gave it to my vet Dr Sass to tell me

Edit
So this is what she told me about adjusting the insulin. She wrote out. If greater than 220 increase by 0.5 units. If 100-220 do not change the dose. If 80-100 decrease by 0.5 units. If 60-79 decrease by one unit. If less than 60 skip dose. She told me that I would go by what his last dose was, trying to explain this lol .So he was at 4 units, I did the test this morning and his BG was 240 so by doing what she told me I increased it by 0.5 units, so I gave him 4.05 units. Now when I do it tonight I would go by his last dose which was 4.05 units and see what his BG is tonight and then adjust it accordingly. Does this seem right to all of you .Thanks

So now Dr Plau comes in because Dr Beeber wanted him to look at Tyler's teeth
He definitely needs a cleaning , I said I know, I said I just can't believe how much plaque builds up so fast. He says well humans go for a teeth cleaning every 6 months, I said I know but it doesn't cost them 5 or 6 hundred dollars or more every 6 months

I said some people just don't have that kind of money!
Now I proceed to tell him how I got Tyler in remission all about our group , I said no disrespect but they know more than some vets know about diabetes
I tried to explain about TR and SLGS and how we go by the nadir to change the dose,
I said if I had followed your instructions Tyler could have had a hypo, he dropped to 39 once while I was doing a curve! He was on Vetsulin at the time.
He just kept saying everyone has a different approach
I just shook my head and he said to me I see you shaking your head.
I said yes I am.
He said he's been treating diabetic cats for over 30 years and Dr Sass didn't have the knowledge he has.
He's also known as The Cat Man
I'm sure he's a very good vet, he's the one that prescribed an antibiotic when Tyler had herpes, not covenia. Cleared it right up

Well anyway I don't think he's too crazy about me now lol
I really don't care

I should have the blood work back on Monday or Tuesday because Dr Beeber will be out of town on Fri and Sat, what's the rush anyway right?

I just so afraid that Tyler had kidney disease , I don't know why
At least if it's thyroid that would be better news

I just can't deal with another cat with kidney disease after losing Perry to it

Well any way just wanted to let you guys know what's going on with Tyler
Oh last year I paid 310.00 for his cleaning, that included the x-rays before and after
anesthesia , everything. When I mentioned it here no one could believe how cheap that was

So I asked Dr Beeber how much would it be now, I showed him my receipt
He said oh I don't know ,you can ask the front desk
So I ask her and she says around 600.00
I said what from last year it went up 300.00
Now when Beeber calls me about the blood/work I have to ask him what she quoted me
I'm going to say you really jacked the price up didn't you
It's irking me
I know that's what it usually runs from what some of you told me but come on .
Went up 300.00
Well I'm done with my rant

When I hear back from the doctor I'll let you all know why he's been losing weight
I'm just sick to my stomach over this

Thanks guys :bighug::bighug::bighug:

My kitty has been tested for thyroid disease and Ibd as well as diabetes. She is being treated for the other illnesses. So I would first be sure she had a through blood work and physical. My kitty had an ultrasound for the Ibd which for her has weight loss as a primary symptom. The budesonide stopped the weight loss.
Prayers for your kitty.

Oh Diane, what a day! You really gave the vets the business! I'm actually proud of you, Jersey Girl. They need that once in a while! Sorry your other vet left the practice. Some vets do work really, really hard! And they have to put up with some real jerks as clients (not the animals, the people.) I do hope that Tyler's kidney values will be within normal limits. Question: you haven't noticed him drinking a lot of water, have you? Urination? Normal? Or huge litter box clumps? If not, I would not stress a lot about CKD. Hang in there girl!

Diane, I'm so sorry to hear this. It is terrible to worry about our babies! But having been through a whole slew of major cat health issues, one after another, within the last 3 years, I hope I can provide a ray of hope for you here.

I won't go into all of the conditions I've had to learn about the hard way because it would take all day (most are noted in my signature anyway), but I want to share what my vet said when Chispa was found to have CKD in 2019. I felt heartsick and scared, as you do, until Dr. B (cat specialist) told me that CKD cats can plateau for years without progressing. He said one of his own cats was diagnosed with stage II at age 12 -- and lived to be 19 before dying of something else entirely!

Having both CKD and diabetes makes for a complicated diet, but I can share what I've been learning if that turns out to be the case (hopefully it will not). In the meantime, Chispa is saying special kitty prayers for Tyler. Please keep us posted.

:bighug::bighug::bighug:

I used to weigh Simon once a week and his weight did fluctuate a bit- depending on whether he had just eaten, gone to the bathroom, hydration status etc. If Tyler is eating well and not vomiting with normal bowel movements this might just be a normal fluctuation? The labs will definitely tell you more but maybe don’t freak out yet! I will be thinking about you and Tyler :bighug:

A day dealing with not one but 3 vets could not have been fun! :bighug:
So Tyler's weight has dropped from 14.6 lbs to 13.8 lbs? In 3 months?

Hey Suzanne , I sure did give him the business :p
He's not drinking a lot of water, as a matter of fact he never drinks water, I put a bowl out he won't touch, run the facet nope so I put a lot of water in his wet food. He get plenty. Urination normal. Last year 3-21 all his blood work came back fine, all normal ranges . So we shall see :bighug::bighug::cat:

Hi Karen, If I remember Perry had Stage 2 back in 2013 or 2014 so he lasted pretty long. Passed 10-6-20
Gave him fluids, phosphate binder, epogen, Barrows B-Rite.low phosphate food.
Thank god Tyler has been in remission since 1-24-21
If he does have it I will probably have to change his food from FF Pate to Weruva
I'll let everyone know when I get his blood work back. I will definitely ask you if I need any help
Thanks so much :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I’m just seeing this. I agree with Suzanne that if his kidneys were getting worse he would drink and pee more. Their weight does fluctuate and that’s not such a large amount. What’s his ideal weight?

I understand your worry as my two who are almost 6 years old have above normally creatinine and I’m very worried too. Was your vet running a SDMA? At first mine said it won’t tell us much and then changed his mind yesterday. Since Chai was there I added it on and will get results next week because my vet didn’t work today. Try not to worry and see what the labs tell you. I know easier said than done. I’m not quite practicing what I preach. :bighug:

Oh Diane! im so sorry about Tyler! :oops:I can't believe they want double in price! really wish i had some money to send to help you, but they r going up everywhere! vest bills out the ying-yang!

I will pray for you and Tyler. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

That’s a good sign. He’s getting adequate hydration from his food then.

Hi Elise I'm sorry about your kitties also. Why the heck do cats have to have kidney problems. I don't know if he ran an SDMA but I will ask him when I talk to him if he didn't why not
Here is what he ran Superchem/CBC/T4/UA
To be honest with you I had to look up what SDMA meant, you all know so much more than I know when it comes to certain tests
On Tyler's SS the labs are there for 2018, 2019, 2021
I think is ideal weight should be around 14 or 15 lbs
But I can feel his bones or whatever you call them when I run my hand across his back, the back end of him is sort of sunken in on both sides , I can see his legs got thinner , even his face looks smaller
Thank you Elise , Sending prayer for your kitties :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Aww thanks Ash. I still can't believe it went up double, I'm going to question him when I talk to him. That's just unbelievable

You are lucky it’s that low. Chai’s dental was $1450.
Get out of here ,that is crazy and the doctor that said to me well human get cleanings every 6 months so cats should too. That's when I said to him humans might only pay around 80 bucks for just a cleaning, some people just can't afford to pay 6 or 7 hundred or more every 6 months
I just couldn't stand his attitude.

absolutely not!
who do they think they are acting like we can just afford this insane crap?! Most people i know who take care of ailing kitties are broke already, they just find it and sacrifice themselves for them! these vets should know this!
i looked up what Sophie's mouth woukd be through the LOW price clinic and it is 675 just for the main charge... that's let alone all the other things they require...so if i can ever get Sophie's teeth extracted, it will be likely around 1500 up to im thinking 2k!!
So ridiculous.
I cannot afford to go to a dentist. haven't been since 2015. lol
Cat cleaning at vet prices, A$ IF!!!

Diane, Tyler’s 2021 labs don’t show any sign of kidney disease. What makes you think he has it? Do his ribs protrude? I think you can feel the spine on all cats.

the doctor that said to me well human get cleanings every 6 months so cats should too.
Except humans don’t typically need to be knocked out for cleanings. Anesthesia isn’t innocuous. No way would I want to put a cat under every 6 months unless absolutely necessary.

Once I can train my cats to “open wide” and lie quietly staring at a poster on the ceiling while having someone pick around in their mouth, they’ll be first in line for 6-mo cleanings (I might still recommend falconers gloves, though). :joyful:

I hope all turns out ok for Tyler.

You are lucky it’s that low. Chai’s dental was $1450.
:woot::woot::woot: Wow! Is that LA prices? Holy cow! And wasn’t there only one extraction. I just took Ginger to the cardiologist last week for a consult and ultrasound and it was $799. I thought that was a lot. Now they dod want to do three views of radiographs for an additional $425 but I declined those as I can get them do e less expensively at my regular vet. Also, with her respiration being low at 18-20 reaths per minute now, I do not think she has a buildup of fluid. But I digress….

I usually end up paying about $300-350 for a dental (with x-rays and extractions). Once a kitty had most teeth removed and is was more like $800. I guess it’s very dependent on where you live.

I hope Chai is all back to normal now from the dental. Maybe they also included the bloodwork in that cost?

Hi Elise I know his 2021 labs look good ,it's just that I have never felt his spine before at all when I would run my hand down his back. I guess the only reason I think he might have kidney disease is because he's been loosing weight steadily.
His ribs aren't protruding. When I look down at him you can see towards the back end of him on each side it's curved in , if you know what I mean.
Maybe I'm thinking he has it is because Perry had it and lost a lot of weight.
Maybe it is his thyroid, As soon as my vet calls me I'll let everyone know
Thanks Elise ♥

Hi Diane,
I’m just seeing this now. I hope Tyler is going to be okay. I think Molly losses weight during the summer months. I stress her out too much lol. She usually gains in the winter months. She doesn’t lose a whole lot. How old is Tyler?
Sending prayers I think he’ll be okay :). But I’m like you I worry about them

Hi Adrienne , he's 14. I'm worried because he never loses weight during the summer months. When I get the blood work back I will post an update. Probably have it back no later than Tuesday
Thanks Adrienne :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hopefully the labs will be okay. Incidentally, before her diabetes diagnosis, Bandit would always lose weight in the summer. The hot weather would reduce her appetite and she would go down to 10.5 lbs. In the winter she would be hungrier and eat a whole lot more and go to 11.6 lbs! :-)

Oh, Diane, I am sorry to read that. But your story about how you explained to your vets that you know better made me laugh.
I hope Tyler's labs will come back soon, and with not bad news :bighug:
Hi Cecile. It was pretty funny, they really ticked me off ,especially Dr Pla!
I should call him Dr Bla lol. I've talked to him before and I just can't stand him.
I'm glad you got a laugh out of it. :p I'll post when I hear something :bighug::bighug:

I Bhooma I hope there's nothing serious/wrong with him, but he's eating really good that why the weight loss is worrying me. The vet will call me Tuesday , he's away until then :bighug::cat:

There are many different causes of weight loss. It’s not necessarily CKD. Once you have a CKD cat though, your mind always runs to that horrible possibility first (mine always does.) I remember when Darcy was drinking lots of water and not feeling well, the first thing I thought of was CKD. I was flabbergasted when the vet said diabetes.

Thanks Suzanne that's probably what it is . :bighug::bighug::bighug:
Going to visit my dad at the nursing home later on, bring him some goodies ,he loves his sweets. Alzheimer's really sucks, but at least he still knows who we are , me, my sister, brother and especially Ashley he never forgets her ,never!
Ya know he will tell me stories that never happened but at least he makes me laugh sometimes. I always get there for lunch time ,sometimes go up for his dinner time .
Ashley came with me 2 weeks ago and he was so happy .
She will probably go with me next week, she has a lot of doctor's appointments this week so she'll be in pain after because of that dam disease.

Diane, when Tango was first diagnosed with diabetes, he weighed over 17 lbs. He's always been a big kitty. In a month he was down to 13.6. Once he got on insulin he's been right around 14 lbs, which is good as needed to lose a little. Don't know if this helps, just thought I'd share.

I'm sorry your dad has Alzeimers. My mom had dementia and it was tough. She would tell stories that I knew weren't true. At first it annoyed me, but then I realized it was the illness and she didn't know any different. We thought the dementia sucked until she got Covid 2 years ago. That was the worst. She was 93 and is now with dad and in peace.

I hope you have a great visit, Diane! You’re a great daughter. Obviously Ashley is very special to you r dad! I always feel so sorry about Ashley’s pain that I don’t know what to say. It’s such a bad situation that nobody can help with. It’s just not right.

Anyway, I know Tyler is in remission so we know that’s not his problem right now, but I hope it’s something treatable.

Diane,

I'm just seeing this report. I'm really praying that Tyler doesn't have kidney disease and that there is a more treatable and short term solution to whatever is causing his weight loss. I know how much you care and worry. Keep us posted on the results of the tests. Big big hugs to you, Auntie Diane. Ruby, Olive and I will be thinking of you. ❤️

Hi Lori, Tyler used to weigh 23 lbs, then weighed 16 lbs when he was diagnosed.
I just looked at my notes when I weigh him 1-7-22 thru 8-28-22 his weight would be 14.8, then 15.6, then 14.4
I weighed him on 9-12 it was 14.2. Then at the vets on 9-22 he weighed 13.8

That's why I'm worried, he's never weighed that low.
I'll just have to wait for his labs on Tues.
Thank you Lori :bighug:

Oh visited with my dad today, it was a good day . He knew who I was ,asked about Ashley my daughter. I stayed about 2 hours got there for his lunch, then of course he loves his sweets, I brought him some blueberry pie and cool whip.
You should see all the sweets he has in his room.
Between me, my sister and brother bringing him up stuff it's like a bakery up there :p
Talk to you soon :bighug:

Hi Suzanne yes we had a nice visit today. He knew who I was , I got there for lunch, he ate good and I took up some blueberry pie and cool whip.
He devoured that :p
I stayed around 2 hours, he was getting tired and took a nap so I left.
Ashley will come with me to see him this week
They have a room at the nursing home that's called a family room, no one is never in there, so when Ashley came with me the last time I take him in there and we shut the door. It's very quiet. Even though the ride bothers Ashley and then the visit it dies cause her pain but she doesn't care as long as she can see him.
So for now she'll go up once every 2 weeks with me.
Thanks for everything Suzanne :bighug::bighug::cat:
