AMPS 85

Not sure if this is right place to ask, but I'll start here....

When Tango was first diagnosed with diabetes his kidney values were also checked and #s were close to normal. Got the results back from recent blood work done on 9/12. Our vet, who is a specialist, informed us that it looks like Tango has early stage kidney disease. After results from 7/12, we were hoping that with better control of the diabetes, other #s would stabalize. Moving forward, we could, 1) recheck blood work in 2-4 weeks as she said there are a couple reasons values may be higher, one was dehydration, or do an ultrasound and another blood test (I don't remember specifics). She discussed a couple different scenarios, but to be honest, I did not retain all the information. We are going to have blood work done again in 2 weeks and see where we're at.

Here are results from previous tests:

4-20-22 7-12 -22 9-12 -22 Range

Creatinine 1.6 1.8 2.8 .9 - 2.3
BUN 27 38 47 16-37
Anion Gap 29 ? 21 12-25
SDMA 18 9 13 0-14
Glucose 400 445 103

Appreciate your thoughts!

There is a Labs tab on the spreadsheet, you can enter the values there. You might have to adjust the ranges, depending on what your lab says. Waiting the couple weeks and redoing was the best choice. My vet always waited for a second test to confirm something was off.

Ok. I've entered blood work test results as best I can. Results from Sept are from the specialist, and the other two are from our regular vet's office. Was somewhat confusing with results being in percentages, whole numbers and decimal numbers. I believe it's accurate:rolleyes:

Let me know if you need clarification and thank you for reviewing!

I like the labs tab, as it allows me to see trends over time; I use one for the non diabetics now too. :) You might want to put values that are out of range in either bold or red, to highlight them easier.

I see that her kidney values (BUN, Creatinine) are going up. Were there no USG (urine specific gravity) numbers? Those can tell you if she's concentrating her urine. Also, if bloodwork is done by Idexx, you can see and SDMA which is also handy for evaluating possible kidney disease. If she's dehydrated at the time of the blood draw, it can temporarily increase the BUN and Creat, hence the need for a repeat test. And USG if you can get it. You can also do a urine capture at home and run that to the vet for them to test specifically for specific gravity. Morning pee is more concentrated so best time to capture it. Phosphorus and potassium are still good. As for the numbers vs percentages, I found some of the hematology measures had both.

Wendy...

I made some changes on labs.

Highlighted out of range with red
Added SDMA in purpple - I do not see it on IDEXX, which is results done on 9/12, but it is on the other two
USG - I only see on IDEXX - added in purple

Thank you!
