Good Morning Everyone,
I have been Lucifer his afternoon meal the last week or so. That helps him to not be crying for food.

His blood sugar has been really great. I test him Mondays. However I felt like he was getting skinnier in the back of him. I took him to the vet this morning just to get an accurate weight because we were using the home scale. He was 12 lbs in May is now 10 lbs.

I know that we completely changed his food to Weruva and it’s low carb so they told me he would lose weight and that he should lose weight but now they are acting like he needs a full work up and he just did that in like July I’m not doing that to him again.

Has anyone experienced this? I don’t feel like 10 lbs is horrible for him his ribs and spine do not stick out he just tapers in now by his hips. Is there something I could give to him to boost his weight if I need to without sending him back into high sugar?

So with the Weruva one thing I have noticed is, some of the cans are small and the food can be pretty low calorie. So you may not be feeding enough calories have you checked how much Lou is getting a day? At 12 pounds, he should have been getting 240 calories a day. Those Weruva cans are often only like 80-100 calories if I remember right.

Stella and Chewie's freeze dried morsels are fairly calorie dense and very low carb, but they are a bit high in phosphorus so we use sparingly but they do add a nice calorie boost to any meal, we mix them in or put the wet food on top with a little water

other people have suggested egg yolk powder or using EZ Complete to make batches of home made raw food now and then, when fed a meal of EZ Complete our cats stay satisfied much much longer.

I just googled now, and with the 5.5 oz cans, I give him different flavors, the lowest one is 96 calories. So maybe he’s not getting enough because that still wouldn’t be the 240. So maybe one in the morning, a half can, and then one at night may help him build up? He just started the extra.

Mr Picky will not eat the freeze dried morsels lol. I tried. He’s very particular I never thought we’d find a can food he would eat.

I could try the other too. Thank you.

there was something else a member posted about using to pack some extra calories into each meal but I can't remember what it was.

oh yeah -- food made for kittens is typically much higher calorie. Have you tried any kitten food on the picky one? Also the Wysong Epigen 90 is super calorie dense but it is also kibble so, not the best option although it IS low carb.
