Starting off with a nice lower number this morning!

I switched Leo's wet food over to B.F.F Play Pate's from the FF. He seems to enjoy them much better. I got tuna/beef, chicken/turkey, just chicken, chicken/duck/turkey, and chicken/lamb. He gets very excited about them. I like that they have a ton of hydration.

Ear pokes have gotten much better. I am also loving the new meter and how it sucks up the blood instead of me having to hold it there and wait for it to register. And it doesn't take more blood than I thought it would. Injections are still hit/miss. Sometimes he acts like he doesn't even notice and other times he throws a fit.

If I can get his insulin times moved up to 8am/8pm I will be able to get his AM+6s during the week before I go to work, those are the important ones right? I leave work around 2:10pm until 6pm and will usually get home around 6:30pm. Right now his times are at 9/9. How would I go about changing them properly? Do I just shoot 15 minutes earlier each time or 30 minutes earlier for one? Otherwise I can get them on the weekends, just wasn't sure if that was enough.

105 is the lowest we've gone. He gets his next insulin at 9pm (it's 7:35pm now). I'm guessing I will have to stall?

Could I have accidentally gotten it intramuscular? Is that why it's dropped so much? So bizarre.

Do you have plenty of supplies like strips, high carb food, Karo/honey/syrup and can you test as often as you may need to tonight?

He's gone from 105 to 107 to 141 so I think he's going to continue to go up but if you want, you can stall, DON'T feed and test again in 20 minutes....if he's still going up and you answered Yes to the above questions, I'd go ahead and shoot.

Once you're testing and have some data to go by, we usually say if they're over 150, you should go ahead and shoot the scheduled dose. It's usually only 200 when somebody is brand new, doesn't know how to test and doesn't have any testing data.

Thank you! I do have supplies! I will test him again within the 20 minutes.

Once I do give him his insulin do I go back to the regular dose time for AM?

If you shoot at 9:20 tonight, you could shoot at 9am tomorrow (as long as he's high enough). I know you're trying to work your way down to 8/8 so if you did 9am, 8:45pm, 8:30am, 8:15pm then you'd be at 8am/8pm on Saturday

Thank you! I was going to wait until this weekend to do it instead since I'll be able to test more often.

I just tested him again and he is still at 141, 25 minutes later.

Well with Lantus, you're not really shooting the number he is now. Since it takes 2-3 hours for Lantus to start to "kick in", plus you'll be feeding him which will raise his BG, I think you could go ahead and shoot the 2.25.

Get a +1 and +2 so you can keep a close eye on him and intervene early IF you need to (but it's also good to get those tests to see what kind of "food bump" he usually gets and when the shot starts to "kick in" (known as onset). Since every cat is different, it's good knowledge for you to learn about Leo!

You could also stall a little longer if you'd be more comfortable

He will be so happy to get food. He's been patiently waiting. So I would want to feed him first and then give him the insulin right?

Yes....it should always be Test/Feed/Shoot. You test to make sure he's high enough for insulin (or if you need to stall), Feed to make sure he's at least willing to eat (not refusing food) and shoot, usually with his head in the bowl. Since Lantus doesn't usually start to onset for 2-3 hours, if he wants to take his time eating, that's OK too (although it sounds like he'll eat whatever you put down!)

I could T/F/S in about 5 minutes...as soon as I saw China's head in the bowl, I'd shoot

Thank you so much for your help! So should I move the last BG check to PMPS and write in 141 @12.25?
