I decided to do a random spot test tonight just before sleeping and Emma was at 49 (+3.75)!! PMPS was 230, so it's a big drop. She doesn't look symptomatic at all, but I immediately gave her some HC dry food and a teaspoon of Fancy Feast grilled turkey in gravy, as well as some honey on the gums.

I will check again in 4-5 minutes but I've never seen her at this BG. She ate 50% calories of Fromm Lamb and 50% from her hydrolyzed protein vet dry food, 4 hours ago.

43 thirty minutes later, but about 25 minutes after I gave her gravy and honey. Still seems okay, but I'll rinse and repeat...

Yep, I just tested. Here's the history:

+3.75 - 49. Gave honey, some high calorie dry food, FF grilled turkey with gravie
+4.25 - 43. Gave some more FF
+4.70 - 47. Gave some of the high calorie dry food.

I have to be careful with what I give her because she has IBD. Worst thing she can do for me right now is vomit.

She seems chill. Obviously tired since she's normally sleeping right now. Is grooming.

Oh poor baby with IBD :bighug:.
Test again in 20 minutes after the last time you fed.
Hopefully Emma will be over 50 by then.
I just went through a very similar low the other day, so yes rinse and repeat until over 50.

Thank you both.

Tested again and she's still just at 43... she had the rest of her scheduled HC dry food. I am worried about giving her more turkey in gravy and having her vomit.

From my understanding, dry food may take longer to bring up the BG. Can you give her some honey or karo? Will that upset her IBD?

I gave her honey once about an hour ago. I will give her more honey if in 20 minutes she's still below 50. I don't know how honey may upset her IBD, but the sticky says this:
"(If you have a cat with GI issues, using a couple of drops of syrup plus low carb food is an alternative.)"

In a different thread some time ago, Wendy mentioned that dry food doesn't take longer to bring up the BG. But I agree honey will be the key if she keeps low.

I'm pretty new at this too so glad you saved Wendy's note. I did not know that about the dry food.
How's she behaving? Still chill?
Congrats on the reduction!

She's lying down and trying to sleep, still within my field of vision. No twitching or any symptoms. Was fine walking around about 10 minutes ago before she lay down.

Thanks for the bright lining of the reduction. You are very kind to keep checking in. It's okay if it's time to sleep! I will be awake, and my wife is here with me to keep me up.

Well I guess it's you, your wife, me and @Sugar’s Mama for awhile longer. :bighug: at least until BG is over 50.
If no symptoms, you can remove the 911 from the thread title. If something changes you can always put it back on. You're doing great.

Hi Manuel, do you have any higher carb wet food? It may help bring those numbers up faster from what I understand. I’m fairly new at this as well

Thank you so much, Jen and Angela and Virginie. You are all very sweet. Emma is perky again after we forcefed her some honey. She's cleaning herself.

I figure 49 is essentially a rounding error for 50 (I'm using a Canadian monitor - 2.7mmol is the actual reading). So she should be out of the woods. But I'll stay up until I get 2 tests over 50.

Hi Carole - I have the FF turkey in gravy, since that's what's mentioned on the sticky. I also have this one: https://weruva.com/product/4-eva/ But I'm worried about her vomiting it up. I very foolishly forgot to give the prednisolone with the food earlier tonight, but I gave that to her too about an hour ago and that almost always brings up the glucose.

If it were me, I'd get the first one 20-30 minutes after the 49 and the honey.

From what I know, Emma typically has low points at +3 to +5, so right about what we're seeing now. I'm just surprised at this drop. Last night I shot at about the exact same numbers... did she go into hypo territory last night without me even knowing it? Horrifying to think...

Looking at your spreadsheet, it does look like you often don’t get PM tests… they tend to go lower at night so a pre-bedtime check could be helpful to add to your routine.

Don't be too hard on yourselves. It's wonderful that you have figured out her onset/nadir. My Cleo still keeps me guessing .
That's the main reason more experienced members press on the "before bed test".
I suspect the food transition may have a lot to do with the lower numbers. That's great! And also another reason to get some tests in during those times in her cycle.

Yes, I definitely will keep doing pre-bed tests. I did quite a few a week ago when I started giving more wet food but then decided to start testing mid-day since it had been a while there. I think from now on if I have to choose, it'll be in the evening.

Happy Kitty Dancing to BG in green!

Now please get a test (or two or three :p) at least in another hour and/or two.

Wonderful job to you and your wife tonight. And don't forget to reduce her insulin in the AM and any other time Emma's BG falls under 90.

I'll look for your post in the morning.

If you are anything like me, as Emma’s numbers come down you will get too curious not to test more often in both cycles. The more data you have, the better you know when you can reduce/increase doses with the goal of remission. Keep posting numbers here! I post daily and everyone is so helpful/encouraging.
