I am waiting for pure-meat treats to be delivered and was wondering if it's OK to use freeze-dried raw food as a treat during testing and injections, and as a way to "get her motor going" to encourage her to eat her low-carb wet food.

The non-meat and non-mineral ingredients are flaxseed flakes and dried kelp.

This is what the numbers are when I plug them into the calculator:

Wet carbs of 9.54% and dry carbs of 10% is OK if I'm giving a portion the size of the top third of my pinkie finger, right?

Typically freeze dried treats are all protein and have no carbs. I used to give Minnie PureBites and VitalEssential chicken and shrimp. You could try just plain cooked chicken or tuna too. What’s the freeze dried raw food brand?

The brand is Feline Natural. I have Chicken & Lamb Feast and Lamb & King Salmon Feast on hand.

I also have PureBites on hand but Christy has had all of her teeth removed except her four fangs and PureBites hurts her mouth.

Have you tried baby food? I gave Minnie Gerber’s chicken and turkey plain baby food as a treat to get her to eat her probiotics. I’d mix them in and she’d eat it up. It’s low carb too

Nope, not yet. This is Day 3 post-dx and I am still buying supplies, special food, etc.

I have FF Squeezable Cat Treats, which come up as having negative carbs when I plug the back-of-the-box numbers into the calculator:

But she doesn't like it as much as she likes the freeze-dried raw food, which is why I asked about that.

Hi @Michele A & Christy here is the link to the nutritional content for the brand you mentioned.

Looks like the freeze dried have less than 1% carbs. :)

Thank you so much, @Angela & Cleo!!!!! I know Christy thanks you, *for sure*!

This was her favorite food but I quit feeding it because I got a 6 mos old kitten early last year and that's a tad young for raw food (IMO). Unless I stood over the bowls the whole time, the little bundle of energy would push the adults out of the way and chow down.

I crumbled a tiny bit of it over her wet food as I was giving her the PM shot a bit ago and she snarfled it up with the wet food, making smacking noises, which she hasn't done in a loooooong time. :cat:

You are doing an amazing job :bighug:. Some friendly advice...don't try and learn everything at once, you'll drive yourself crazy!!!
The best advice passed along is that your kitty is more than his/her numbers. This helped me immensely!
