Need Help Finding a Thread About Hypo Event

As soon as I was accepted to this group I started clicking on and reading everything I could (I still have 10 tabs open from here!)

BUT... I cannot for the life of me find the link to the thread where a kitty mom accidentally gave her cat too much insulin (it might have even been the first shot ever?).

The link was posted in one of the "How To" or "Help" sections. It was snowy where they were at and she took kitty to the ER, came home, stayed up allll day (or night?) and, in the end, kitty was OK.

There was a lot of valuable information in that thread and I'm frantic to find it again. Help?

I would consider the thread @Bron and Sheba (GA) linked to be a great lesson in avoiding a HYPO. In addition to learning avoiding hypo, its a great representation of the community here at FDMB. @Teetee (UK) , @Bron and Sheba (GA) and @Suzanne & Darcy to just name a few people, were instrumental in keeping Merlin safe and the Caregiver calm and focused. :bighug:

It's a long thread but i highly recommend you reading this as well Michele.
Wow what a day and night that was for Jill and Merlin on his first day on insulin, talk about a baptism of fire. :nailbiting:

I was very new when this happened with Merlin and had no useful advice but followed along all night. It was so useful to know what was recommended along the way and encouraged me to get together a hypo kit and keep plenty of extra test strips on hand.
 
I was telling my mom, who lives with me, about finding this community and explaining that it was why I was running to a bunch of different stores on Saturday right after Christy was diagnosed (and receiving overnight deliveries on Sunday for things I couldn't find locally). When I read through the thread about Baby's accidental overdose (if that's the right word) and saw how everyone responded, especially the "pros" passing the baton to one another across time zones, I cried. Then I cried again the next day when I tried to tell my mom about it.

Thank you, @Bron and Sheba (GA), for the thread about Merlin. And not just for the info contained in it, but for it helping me feel like I won't be walking this journey with Christy alone, and that I've got a whole group of supportive, responsive people walking along beside me.

You're right there Michele, the community on here is very very special indeed and you and Christy will never be alone on here.
I will forever be grateful for the help i've received/still receive from the members with Duke.
I'm not a Lantus user so i cannot advise on dosing etc but i will introduce you to a few experienced Lantus users as you will need to switch over to the Lantus forum for help with dosing etc.
They will advise you on what to do next as in posting over there.

Hi Michele, I use all 4 edges to test Bandit. That way, one edge or the other doesn't get overused :-)

Like @Teetee (UK) suggested you want to start posting on the Lantus forum. Have you been able to take a look at the Lantus dosing protocols and pick one? If you are feeding only canned food and can get at least 4 tests a day (2 preshots and 2 midcycle), you could consider TR.

I've looked at the Lantus dosing protocols and am going with SLGS for now because (1) I still feel lost and intimated by the dx and treatment [I'm sure I'll get beyond this eventually] and (2) I'm supposed to go to the office 1-2 days a week and travel overnight for work anywhere from 2 days to a full week several times a year. I've managed to get overseas travel in September adjusted so I can do my work from here while directing colleagues overseas but I have a series of overnighters coming up in October and November that I can't get out of.

Which means that my ability to get midcycle tests will be inconsistent, and I'll need to have the most simple of instructions for any pet sitter I hire for overnight travel.

I'll switch over to the Lantus group for any health-related questions. Thank you and @Teetee (UK) for pointing that out / reminding me. :-)

Hi Michele,
There's no need to post health related questions on the Lantus forum, you can do that here on the Feline health forum as more members will see your post and you will get more replies.
Over on the Lantus forum is where you can post Christy's AMPS/PMPS to ask for dosing advise etc if you need it.
Sorry for the confusion.

You would post like this on the lantus board
Date Christy AMPS# and any tests after that, since you are using the Libre you don't have to post every test if you don't want to. Then continue with the PMPS # and any tests after that so we can follow along
To add additional tests to your title tap on Thread Tools it will be to the right, tap on that then tap in Edit Thread add your tests and tap Save
You should also link your previous days post to the new one
Your previous days post is all the way up top above the pic of that kitty on the left hand side , it's in that long line. Copy it and paste it to your new post.

Also can you please add SLGS to your signature
If you can get more tests in after PMPS that would be good so members can see how the insulin is working , cats usually drop lower during the night time

  • I added SLGS to my signature.
  • I'm testing Christy with ReliOn Premier Classic (which I also added to the signature).
  • I have my own health issues, ones that require a lot more sleep than a "normal" person for me to not have a flare-up. It will be very hard for me to get anything other than a +1 after the PM shot. I would, of course, forgo sleep if there was a crisis or she seemed off.
