Hello,

Elmsley is having unexpectedly great preshot BGs. He is currently on 2.5u Prozinc, and that usually drops him 150-200 points. Most recent reading 142.

Currently stalling, should we just feed without a shot tonight, feed higher carb, etc.?

Thanks.

I've updated the post to remove stalling in the title since he's 2 hours past normal shot time.

No shot tonight, hoping for good numbers in the morning with tiki cat instead of FF tonight.

If this ever happens again try tagging Melissa , since she knows about Prozinc
In the future I could tag some other members for you to see what they day
Don't forget to put NS (no shot) in the Unit cell for tonight :cat:
Elmsley's a little cutie :cat:

Thank you. Is there something else that I should have done to get a response besides taking other users?
You did state stalling ,unfortunately you didn't get a response.
I'm not a prozinc user and you did stall ,with those numbers better to be safe
I don't know if Melissa would have suggested a token dose or not
I'll start to follow you in case you need help in the future and I'll tag other members for you
In your title I would go back and put today's Date Elmsley PMPS and leave the tests there

I was looking at your SS it says pre shot 137? Your title says 151?

Forgot to ask you if you have med and high carb foods in your hypo kit?
@Scott & Elmsley
Such as
Med and High Carb food and some honey

Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers Gourmet Beef Feast in Gravy 20% High Carbs

Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers Gourmet Chicken Feast in Gravy 15% Med Carbs

Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers Turkey Feast in Gravy 15% Med Carbs

Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers Chicken and Beef in Gravy 15% Med Carbs

Good idea to mark the cans with magic marker how many carbs

Or any on the food chart.

@Scott & Elmsley you did everything right when you got that lower than normal preshot.

It looks like he's getting used to the blues (YAY!) You've had a few cycles lately where blue followed blue so caution was definitely warranted with that lower than normal preshot.

Now you wait and see how he handled the NS. If it looks like he could have used some juice maybe next time try 0.25U if you're around to monitor, have a hypo kit and can intervene with food if needed. If he handles 0.25U okay when the PS is around 150 you could try 0.5U next, then 0.75U and so on, and again, as long as you're around to monitor. With time and data that's how you work your way up to shooting lower and lower preshot numbers safely.

Update: After 2.5 cans of Tiki Cat After Dark, and +3 in the 220s, we woke up at 440.

I guess this shows he definitely glucose dumps in the early morning since he barely had any carbs over the past 12 hours. I wonder if this means he might be better served on Lantus?

That's okay! It was just one cycle and some good data. Give him a chance to get back on track today.

It takes time for their bodies to get used to lower numbers/normal numbers - you're helping by giving insulin but his body still thinks those high numbers are normal.

He's looking fantastic for a newly diagnosed kitty! Gosh, just a few weeks ago you were seeing black.

Looks like his body dove right back in, back into the blue on a +4 after 1.5 cans of FF. This is actually the biggest drop I think I've seen from a single shot this early into a cycle (-240).

Sorry I wasn't online, I'm usually only around for a bit mid-morning EST and after about 830/9p.

You did everything right. I would have given the option of a skip or a token dose -something like 0.25U to start, if you can monitor - but ultimately left it up to you, your comfort level, and ability to monitor. Always always better safe than sorry, we say better too high for a little while vs too low for even a second.
