Dasuquin raising blood sugar?

During his last visit, my vet started Magic on Dasuquin chews 2/2x daily. The vet thought that he may be having some arthritis pain and that was elevating his blood sugars. The thought was that if that was the case the Dasuquin would help things, his numbers would drop and he'd feel better.

Instead, his numbers just started climbing.

We stopped the Dasuquin and temporarily raised his ProZinc and today he's dropped back down to where he should be.

Had anyone else seen this side effect? My vet was shocked that it had such an opposite reaction compared to what he's typically seen.

Dasuquin does have soy protein isolate that has 7% carbs but I would have thought the amount you would give would not make a difference to the BGs.
I will tag @FrostD as she uses Prozinc

This dose is currently pretty good for him, looks like he bounced a bit from yesterday. See what happens after he clears the bounce, I suspect.you have room to increase.

As for the Dasuquin, I've not heard of it affecting BG (other than possibly lowering it like you said) but I'm also not too familiar with it. My only other thought is perhaps they changed formula but not label (as we've seen with foods lately), or something in it doesn't agree with him. Based on spreadsheet it doesn't seem like coincidence.

We may have figured out something interesting... We're now not so sure the Dasuquin was the cause. Even after stopping the Dasuquin and increasing Magic's insulin dosage, his numbers continued to climb.

After hitting my head against the wall trying to figure out what was going on, I decided to open the new vial of ProZinc I had in the fridge (I always try and keep a spare in the event I break it). The other vial was almost half-full.

The new vial seems to have made all the difference and now his numbers are coming back in-line and he's started feeling better.

I'm not sure why this particular vial just 'quit' like it did but it seems like that was the culprit. My vet has contacted their distributor and the folks at Behringer Ingelheim with the lot number info, etc. (I seriously doubt we'll hear anything.) I'm just thankful that we're back heading in the right direction but it's been a frustrating two weeks.

Glad to hear it's hopefully been resolved! How long was the old bottle open? Interesting it may have just gone kaput like overnight.

Never had this happen before. The temperature monitor i have that sits right next to his insulin showed it stayed in the 36-46 degree range and it’s never been left out so I’m stumped what may have happened.

Only thing the vet and I have been able to even remotely explain it was there must have either been a manufacturing issue or it somehow was damaged by FedEx somewhere in transit - possibly en route to the distributor.

I was just casually reading and spotted your post Denver. Nico is on ProZinc as well, and ever since his last vial his numbers have been jumpy and less greens. I had my suspicions that it was the most recent bottle of PZ we got for him - I'm actually ordering a new vial early to see if that was his culprit as well!

just out of curiosity…. What lot number and expiration is your ‘questionable’ vial?

My lot # is AH2094K, exp 03-24.

Looks like we have different lots…. My bad vial is SH10361 exp 09-24.

One thing I’ve noticed with this vial is when it sits in the fridge overnight everything stays cloudy and in suspension. The new vial that works correctly separates significantly until it’s rolled to remix.

Ah ok, I appreciate you sharing! It's ironic if anything. I honestly despise FedEx lately, the past few times I paid for overnight and I'll be lucky if I get it within 3 days. I've been searching for a pharmacy near me that I'd be able to buy directly, no luck so far.
