Sorry, off to a bad morning, yellow, higher yellow, less yellow, and then there was the pill (ondansetron). She's figured out the hiding place in her food & deftly picks around no matter what I wrap it in. She's eating like she has an upset tummy (hungry, but not) so I attempted to pill her. I mean, I've pilled lots of cats & am doing daughter's 14lb galoot of a Siamese once, sometimes twice a day, and Maus is just a bit of a thing. Did the full burrito & Nope, Nope, NOPE. It was horrible & now she won't let me anywhere near. We done with that. An hour later she barfed :(

Crazy is when diabetes is the easy part.

Vet talked me out of inject-able cerenia because of the sting/burn, says let's solve the problem which could be simply not passing the fur (SNAP test negative). Raw diet makes small, hard poo & hers are infrequent, so it makes sense, worth a try. Adding a bit more psyllium & some mineral oil to see if we can get things moving & she did produce something worthwhile last night. Okay, let's make it a habit. In the meantime, I'll wash the blanket again & be thankful she missed the couch.

For today, I'm in full retreat & going to take her to the garden where she can find those beautiful thick blades of grass & let her moo then barf to her heart's content then nap in the catmint. This has always been her way; maybe I should listen more when she says let me OUT!

Aww you poor thing! The stress must be awful. Maybe you're right and should listen to Maus. Take a break and eat the cat grass (you should smell the roses). Keeping fingers crossed that psyllium and oil do the trick. You're an awesome mommy ♥️♥️♥️♥️

Pilling is so ECID. :bighug::bighug::bighug: I used to work part time/volunteer at the local shelter and had thought I had pilling down pat. Then along came Neko. :arghh: I got as many things compounded as liquid as I could. Eventually I found a pill shooter that made my life somewhat easier. I also tried virgin coconut oil and a bit of unsalted butter. Neko was raw fed too.

Have you given up on the injectable ondansetron too?

actually, that wasn't mentioned, I'll ask. We went down the path of fix the problem which is fine, but in the meantime . . .

Has anyone tried Prevomax, the newer maropitant formulation that uses benzyl alcohol? Supposed to sting less. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29531751/

Coconut oil as laxitive or to hide the pill?

I have a standard pill shooter & she just won't stay calm enough to get her mouth open or get in from the side - we're talking claws in the ceiling stuff and by the end of it we BOTH needed a drink :nailbiting:

Coconut oil as laxative. Though Miralax is used quite commonly on cats too. For more: https://felineconstipation.org/

Might want to post in Feline Health with a question on the Prevomax. Would be nice to hear if there was an answer to the sting. You'd thing vets would be all over that as it's a commonly given drug at clinics.

Hi!

One thing that simplified things a little for me was to use the soluble 'disintegrating' ondansetron tablets. Doesn't make it any easier to get the pill in but once it's in, I was able to keep her still and clamp her mouth long enough for it to dissolve in her mouth. Took a few attempts to figure out how long it needed to dissolve so she couldn't spit it out. Can't remember why our vet said no to the injectable ondansetron. Good luck!
