Can anyone advise me on this?
The vet suggested he get the shot 0.5 only once a day if I choose?
I have not been able to get enough readings during the day yet to see how its working
plus I gave higher carb foods recently for calories since he's so boney.
This would make his numbers higher.
One day he was at 81 but I was told that is normal at times
Next BG will be an hour after he last ate right before shot time.
I don't stop him from eating since he's so thin so he just ate
I won't be able to test overnight tonight if I give the PM shot

Cats have a faster metabolism than humans and need insulin twice a day. You would be better dividing the dose and giving 0.25 units twice a day.

If you want to put on weight, you need higher calories not higher carbs.

81 is ok if it is during the mid part of cycle, I think you need to look two dosing methods and choose one. I think SLGS would be best for you at the moment. Look at the two dosing methods below.
DOSING METHODS

I am going to get you to start posting over on the Lantus forum as soon as you choose a dosing method, where there are a lot more people to help you all the time.

Start low go slow method. Click on the link to Dosing methods I gave you above and read the information.
I think it would be the better of the two methods at the moment for you.

So do you think one dose or 2? its been 2
Are you asking if I think you should dose twice a day and not once a day?
I think you should give the dose two time a a day
i am going to tag @tiffmaxee so that she can come over and meet you so that when you post on the Lantus forum she will know you. She may also have some advice to give you.

Thank you. I gave his shot now. BG was 379

Can you get a test in around the +4 to 6 range to see how low the dose is taking Tommy please?
Try not to feed for the two hours preshot test so that the BG is not food influenced.
I would give him small snacks every couple of hours if he will eat them because he is so thin and unsteady.

Did you ask about getting some Hills A/d from the vet?. It’s a recovery food and has higher calories which is what you need.

If not an infection what does your vet say is the problem? Peeing blood has to have a cause.
His only advice was give Cosequin for possible cystitis and do X-rays for stones.
Cat is so weak. I am sick to my stomach that the Covenia may have caused blood and weakness. It wasn't even needed.
Or possibly the cystocentesis could have injured his bladder for urine sample???
This vets reviews are mostly that he euthanized peoples pets.
Hopefully he wasn't the cause too. He was going to start my cat at 2 units insulin and he only needs 1/4-1/2 unit. Good thing I was already on here and aware to say no.
And had me wait 2 months to start insulin and said try low carb diet, and my cat lost half his body weight during that time. Blamed me and said I wanted to wait but did not explain to me what could happen. Now he mentioned end of life discussion. I am furious

I would definitely see another vet. I am so sorry your current vet is failing you. Stones would be very painful.

How are things with Tommy?
He is on a regular schedule with the insulin, still blood in urine but Im giving the Cosequin, I got probiotic and high calorie food,
He is walking a little better but is still very weak. He is eating, drinking, using his box but gets exhausted and has to lay wherever he ends up.
I do think this was due to Covenia because right after he couldn't walk and became very weak, blood in urine. Or a reaction to the Glargine? Don't know.
He is in no shape to travel to get X-rays or be handled. Plus I dont have the money. Vet says blood work was just done 3 months ago.
I will be getting him IV fluids this week.
I read that as the Covenia leaves his system he may improve.
Thanks for asking.
