My 7 year old female Maine Coon has just been diagnosed with diabetes. I have been feeding her Royal Canin canned and dry food. Since RC changed their formula she has not tolerated this diet too well and now has UTI and possible diabetes. Has anyone had any issues with Royal Canin since their product has been so difficult to stock and formula subsequently changed? I have stopped feeding her this. Could anyone give me recommendation for good canned food (nothing raw) that will help her? Any thoughts on Tiki cat food? Thank you for your advice!

Hi and welcome. Tiki makes some excellent low-carb options but many of them are fish-based and the experts recommend only feeding fish flavors once a week at most due to the mercury, typically high phosphorus, and also some have found a cat can develop an issue where they won't eat anything but fishy flavors

As far as canned food goes we feed a variety of Fancy Feast pates, Tiki, Weruva, Fussiecat and Friskies.

Thank you. My kitty doesn't ever do fish. So should I introduce FF Classic, Tiki chicken, Weruva, and what about ProPlan?

We do feed Purina ProPlan DM Savory Selects in Sauce as a medium carb option on occasion. not frequently, and only if i am trying to bump his BG up a little with the carbs. The quality of the fats and protein used is questionable. Also it is higher in fat than protein.

I primarily give my cats recommended wet/canned food but would like to add a teaspoon of dry on top. The chart is all wet food. Can anyone recommend a good dry food?

you won't find much in the way of those recommendations here at the FDMB. There are very very few options for a low-carb kibble, and the super-successful dosing method of Tight Regulation does not allow for any kibble to be fed to the sugar kittah.

that being said, for a transition from dry to wet, while still keeping the carbs out, we fed Wysong Epigen 90
