I have three diabetic kitties. One is in remission from steroid induced diabetes. He is 15 and also has IBD. I still check his glucose daily to make sure he stays in remission. When he has an IBD flareup I give him metronidazole. Every single time I give it to him his glucose shoots up into the 200’s even after just one dose. Today it was up to 270 and I gave him a half unit of insulin. This happens every time he gets metronidazole and I’m so afraid it is going to bump him out of remission. Does anyone else have a cat that takes metronidazole and experiences spikes in glucose? I can’t find any information online about it and my vet didn’t seem to think it would cause it either.

My sugar boy has been on it for about 10 days I think & his #s have been very high compared to what they usually are. He's been in the 200s mostly but has also had some 300s & one 400. I Googled it & it does spike there BG. He normally is in the 100s- 60s.
