This rings a bell @Suzanne & Darcy ...I think she came across some statement that RenalTech resulted in more prescription diet consumers or something "suspicious " like that

Interesting. She is a proponent of a renal diet. What interested me was the tests and how they correlated with ckd progression, not the food part.

 

Okay... I was so curious that I have answered my own question. I'm attaching the link to the Antech labs Renal Tech Prediction.... I'm very jaded... I hate to see veterinary medicine come down to "increased visits and sales of CKD-related food purchases, etc. Here's a quote from their page about the Renal Tech thing:

"In a one-year retrospective analysis of 730,000 feline patients that visited small animal clinics, RenalTech was a significant driver of increased visits, CKD-related food purchases, and CKD-related medications."

That is just sad. All I could think about was early detection and longer lives. @Suzanne & Darcy now I remember it’s the same vet as that other one I posted. But the other one was written by the pet food companies. Does this vet work for them?

 

It is interesting, and a little scary for me when I start thinking about my cats.

 

I know that in some cases there’s a much too cozy relationship between some vets and the food companies. In a recent vet visit, a friend of mine had her dogs at the vet. The vet was pushing them to by some of their Hill’s food. They didn’t want it, but the vet (after becoming irate that they wouldn’t buy the food) said something about the pet food company putting her through vet school. They didn’t really understand what she meant by this and, since they already were not getting along, they did not inquire further.

My niece went to veterinary college and worked as a vet tech at a pet ER for the last 5 years. I am going to ask her about that comment.

she has decided to move on from veterinary medicine and into people medicine at this point. More money in it, apparently?

Kyle - despite the general perception, vets do not make buckets of money despite the cost of vet school. They also have a high rate of suicide. It's a very tough profession!

 

I would say the vet is not a profession that has a great financial return/cost ratio, many professions are better in this aspect.
