5/5 Taz, AMPS-209, +4-218, +7-238, PMPS-220, +2-195

How is Taz feeling today? He could be doing a delayed bounce, or maybe a high before the low. That's a lot of fairly flat yellows which can also signal an action cycle to come. Tonight will tell the story.

I have been sitting here for almost 30 minutes, trying to figure out how to find carbs in one can of food using the info you provided. I feel soo lost! Can you please show me in mathematical equations how I would find the carbs (like Dr Lisa's) in this food?

Protein - 8%
Fat - 5%
Fiber - 1%
Moisture - 82%
Ash - 3.5%
Taurine - .05%

I came up with 2% as an answer, but the flavor is in savory gravy, so I'm guessing it's a lot higher in carbs. On the Scheyderweb calculator, it tells me that the dry matter for this flavor is 3%.

What food are you trying to find the % carbs for? The numbers above look like they may be GA values. Those aren’t the greatest bc they are minimums And Maximus (so one does not know how much the actual value varies). To do the carb calc from Marje’s post, you start with either the dmb or as fed values. Some pet food companies post them, some people provide them by request (& some do not).

If you let me know what food you are wondering about, I can see if I can help you track down the dmb or af values AND THEN help calculate the % carbs.

My husband was watching him on our camera while we were at work and he made a comment about Taz being really active today. I'm hoping this is a bounce from the third and that maybe he went a bit lower than that 126 I caught. I really don't want another active cycle any time soon. I'm leaving town on Saturday (for an early Mother's Day day trip) and I just really want him to be in safe numbers that day. :/

Hi, I'm interested in knowing about the Friskies Tasty Treasures Prime Filets (not in cheese or bacon), Friskies Farm Favorites, and Friskies Extra Gravy pates.

Hi Sara. I see you are still seeking carb info. I hope you can get it. It’s very frustrating and time consuming. He really was flat in the yellows today. I hope tonight will be peaceful for you!

Thank you, I do too. I have several cans in my cabinet that I can't use right now because I don't know if they are low, med, or high carb. I wish companies had to provide exact information.

He's sure loving his yellows today. I hope that he doesn't drop a lot as a result.

I was just checking back on you and Taz this morning. I see he had some nice blues but nothing scary. Good boy! I hope you got some rest.

I don't think there's a new post for today so just responding here -

Friskies Tasty Treasures Prime Filets (not in cheese or bacon)
Is the list in Dr. Lisa's sheet include the flavors you have? Looks like they are all 14-15% carb there (see page 21?)

Friskies Farm Favorites, and Friskies Extra Gravy pates.
I couldn't find much nutrition info on these...you can try scouring chewy.com (or amazon) but the answers get confusing because chewy/amazon doesn't always say if the values they give are As Fed or DMB. With that said, looking at the ingredients of some farm favorites, I see rice so I would guess those are at least medium carb. The other thing you can do is contact Purina and see if they'll provide you with the TNA values (and if not, as for the As Fed or DMB values and then we can do calculations from the Carb % post).

Sorry I couldn't be of more help (though with the right data, I'll do the math! But this also goes to show how invaluable Dr. Lisa's list is as it's a pain to get the right data).

The only problem with Dr. Lisa’s list is that it’s from 2014 and many of the formulas have changed and there are a lot of new foods out there.

Totally get it. I personally always start with her list and then see if I can find more recent data which has included attempting to contact pet food companies. If only they would all willingly share their data!

Thank you so much for checking into these for me. I'll just assume that they're medium carb. :)
