Panzer finally had his vet appointment today. The bad news is my poor boy still has a UTI, I just want to cry! The vet called in a prescription for DOXYCYCLINE to the pharmacy. Good news he saw his regular vet & Panzer will be changing to Lantus/gargaline. The ? is for now so I can call my vet back is where can I get it for cheap or a reasonable price. I am in the USA in Indiana. I will post his urinalysis from the clean catch urine here shortly. @FrostD @Suzanne & Darcy @Diane Tyler's Mom @tiffmaxee @Wendy&Neko @carfurby @Bron and Sheba (GA) https://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/thr...s-207-200-4-urine-culture-234-6-244-8.261132/

Yeah. I saw that it was going to be maybe Doxycycline this morning when I reviewed that past urinalysis. I can't believe it. When did the vet say to come back? Lantus... I bought mine locally at a small (not chain) independent pharmacy. It was $99. You can consider Basaglar or Semglee (glargine). Kyle said that Mark's Marine in Canada was backordered on Lantus so he switched to one of the generics.

Oh for crying out loud this poor cat! :(

I'm hearing mixed things about Lantus (and semglee, and "insulin glargine"). Some people have found it, specifically at their local Rite Aid or similar store, for around $56 - I think that was for 3 pens of the generic "insulin glargine". May have been a single pen, I cannot find the post at the moment.

He's such a low dose definitely do the pens...and I would consider starting with one pen, he was on a pretty good track to possible remission before this UTI. Marks would probably be more cost prohibitive for a single pen; if you're in the south theres also temperature risk. Some stores will not "break" a package of pens open to sell just one, I had to call around before I found one.

Poor Panzer ! I hope the doxy does the trick!
Definitely go with the pen, I'll post below where you can get the U-100 syringes with half unit markings for lantus
Just stick the syringe in the rubber stopper that's on the pen and draw out the insulin
Lantus is so expensive in the US
Many members use
Basaglar is a biosimiliar insulin to Lantus. Semglee (available in the US) makes another biosimilar just called insulin glargine that is quite reasonably priced.
One of our members ordered
Basaglar from Marks Marine in Canada it took about 3-4 weeks to arrive
Check around at all the pharmacy's by you

Syringes

Call them and they will contact your vet to fax over a script , get some refills and give your vet a heads up that they will be contacted

I know my poor boy! I've called around to Walmart & Walgreens & they won't do goodrx because it's for a cat. Single care will but it's not cheap even with a coupon. When the vet called in Panzer's DOXYCYCLINE he asked how much a vial of Lantus would be they wouldn't tell him without a script? I called & they gave me different prices. Walmart won't split a box of 5 pens up $349.99 I could do that but I don't feel like he will need that many?

I am in Indiana the everyday is a different season state:smuggrin: I know it right before we moved at the end of January I believe he was on 0.1unit may e .25 units. Yes Walmart here won't break a pack of 5 pens up.

Ask for glargine or basaglar even call your grocery store pharmacy's
I just talked to Walgreens because that's where Panzer's DOXYCYCLINE got called in at & they said it $628 but to go through goodrx & they said the vet will have to call about the insulin but they can't give a price until he gives the script. Ugh I gotta get that DOXYCYCLINE ASAP!

So get the script, see if they will let your vet fax it over

Some members used semglee but I see it's discontinued

Semglee has since been discontinued but the manufacturer sells is now as unbranded insulin glargine-yfgn. You can get generic glargine insulin at about the price one pays for real Lantus from Canada. See:
https://www.goodrx.com/semglee?dosa...ulin glargine&quantity=1&sort_type=popularity
Note the the restrictions (click on get free discount) say the cheap price does not apply for pets. However, if you click on the link that says I don't qualify, show me other option you get a higher price. The higher price depends upon the pharmacy and change frequently. For discount price of $108 the coupon good for pets varied from $115 to $154 or more so it depends upon where you go and when.

Okay thank you Diana. The vet is closed for the weekend so I will be calling around for the insulin & I will check that link out for the insulin as well. The price for a vial at Walgreens is $341 without the goodrx & I believe it's $212 for a single pen it maybe 3 pens. Im so confused. I have stuff written everywhere. I do no that Walmart is out they will only take cash for Lantus & won't use goodrx because he's a cat. Also the 2 Walgreens closest to me are closed until Monday due to a shortage of pharmacists. I have 2 other #s to call but they are closed until 9am tomorrow. I found the codes for doxycycline on good Rx & I can get it for $152.93. Hopefully the other 2 Walgreens aren't closed until Monday. Poor Panzer needs to start on his antibiotic ASAP.

I'm sorry Panzer still has a UTI. I hope the doxy clears it up.

You could try this and choose I want a savings card. It's technically for people, but some have had luck getting the pharmacist to use it. You'll have to shop around.

https://www.toujeo.com/toujeo-savings-card-coupon-and-support?&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Google_Toujeo DTC_Conquesting_Lantus_Financial_Exact&utm_term=lantus discount card&gclid=Cj0KCQjwpImTBhCmARIsAKr58cwQ4LRl-ijSWitGSwsK5SfNvsozVGIW1_1mWdBA1n3aE1rvmqWOu7QaAvK0EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
I hope it does too & hopefully I can get his DOXYCYCLINE for it tomorrow the vet didn't have the 75mg tablets in his office so he called in a prescription for it. I got the price down from $628 to $153 but so far 3 of the Walgreens closest to me are closed until Monday due to no pharmacist. I have a couple more to call tomorrow & some other ones that are nearby to check tomorrow as well so I can get him started on that right away. Thank you for the link I'm comparing prices & seeing what I can get for the best price, I will check it out as well. I think Panzer has a much better chance on Lantus of goingintoremission & I'm very happy that my vet agrees. It took some persuading but I talked him into it. He's also diabetic & takes Lantus as well.

Not sure what your budget is but You could try GoodRx to see if the generic is available at a discount at local pharmacies https://www.goodrx.com/
Or walmartpetrx.com
Thank you I found his DOXYCYCLINE & a vial of Lantus for a discounted price with the goodrx link at Walgreens where the vet called in the DOXYCYCLINE. I'm still shopping around for Lantus & not sure where I'm getting it yet. I have to find a Walgreens where I can get Panzer's DOXYCYCLINE that's opened this weekend, so far 3 around me are closed until Monday because they are short on pharmacist!

Christina, see if there are any privately owned small pharmacies in your area. Perhaps a compounding pharmacy could help. I got my Lantus for $99 a vial because the small, family run pharmacy said they had a discount coupon that they could apply for me.

I am still astounded at the prices being quoted you for Doxy. It’s an old drug that’s been around a long time. Nothing new or fancy about Doxycycline. I just checked on my phone for 20 75 mg tablets and I am getting nothing higher than $30. I wonder if they’re ripping you off because it’s for a cat.

Ok I don't know if we have any locally owned pharmacies but I will check. I think that is exactly what they are doing ripping me off. I might check wedge wood too, but they would probably have to ship it to me, & I need it now!

I am having no luck at all getting through to a Walgreens where I live to get Panzer's DOXYCYCLINE prescription filled, so he will probably have to wait until Monday. I did however find them at another pharmacy for $30.30 with the goodrx coupon. I also found a vial of insulin gargaline at CVS with the goodrx coupon for $90.37. So now I wait until Monday when I can call the vet!

Put your zip code in for the discount card above then basaglar ,it will list the pharmacy's by you and the prices, it looks like it's for one pen, call them to be sure
I found the doxycycline for $11.56 with this & the Lantus for $36.42. I called the pharmacy & they said they never heard of it. It says it is going to email me a card, haven't gotten anything yet. Thank you Diane :cat:

So they do have the lantus for 36.42? Who was that Kroger Pharmacy
Was it a pen or vial ?
If so then get both of them there right?
Why do you have to wait for them to email you the card
Looks like you can just do this

It's a vial which is what I'm comfortable with. I will check it out thank you bunches Diane :bighug:

Update on Panzer: I think he was showing some pain earlier. He was walking around meowing alot more than usual. Turning his nose up to food immediately, he ate all of it with the help of fortiflora. He's good now loving the fresh air coming in the windows I contacted with the help of one pharmacist from Walgreens looking for DOXYCYCLINE in the whole state. Everybody is out until Mon at Walgreens. I remembered that I transferred to that Walgreens that was helping me & called the nearest Meijer & she checked all Meijers for me & I found some 85 miles round trip for me. She was going to contact the other pharmacist & tranfer it to there. Of course it was closing time in 30mins, so if it went through I should be able to go & pick it up tomorrow. I asked her if they took goodrx & she said as long as the vet had a # God please let him. I'm not sure how much the before goodrx price is but with it I will only have to pay $30.30, which is much more reasonable. Insulin glargine vial is $85.05 & Lantus vial is $194.82 with goodrx. So now I just need to decide between the 2 vials. I don't mind paying more because it will be good for 6mons or more regardless of brand. Even though he may not need much due to possible remission :cat:He is well worth any amount of $. I was really hurting for $ the other day & something happened. I got a credit card I had applied for in the mail, then a friend stopped by & gave me $120 in cash. God works in mysterious ways:bighug: praying that his UTI script comes through tomorrow & it kick this UTI in the butt:bighug::bighug:

Ordered these. I thought I had the right ones from him starting on novalin when he was first diagnosed but they were totally different no half markings. Thank you again Diane :bighug:

I think he wants control the prescription & I don't want him to change his mind. Spook has an appointment on Tuesday so I will talk to him about it then.

For some drugs Amazon Pharmacy is less expensive. However, they did not have the Doxy in 75 mg size. They had, 50, 100 and 150 mg.
Just remember Amazon Pharmacy for the future

Insulin Glargine-yfgn for
Price:$93.80

Supply
30 days (5 pre-filled pens of 3 milliliters)
That's a good deal. How do they do with shipping? I order alot of stuff from them & have Prime shipping. I never get same day or next day like your supposed to. Some things come in 2- 3 days. Some take a week or more.

Hi Christina, if you should ever get the pens you will need to use a syringe became you can only adjust the dose by whole units
Like see you said you are more comfortable using a vial
The pens are like the same thing
Just stick the syringe in the rubber stopper that's on the pen and draw out your insulin
Just take the cap off the pen and use a U100 syringes and pull the insulin out of the pen!

I have had excellent delivery with Amazon when they specify a delivery date it is almost always met. I have yet not tried Amazon for pharmacy.

Christina, I'm trying to catch up. Did Panzer get the Doxycycline or not? I thought about you but figured that he would have started it on Saturday? I now see that he didn't. What about today?

Yes I finally got it. I had to transfer it to a Meijer that was 85 miles round trip but with goodrx I got it for $30.39. He started on it yesterday & will get his 2nd one @+4 PMPS feeding. It's one pill a day for 20 days & there's a refill on it to.

So glad you got it. Who in the world would even think that you would have such a hard time finding it. Now what about the Lantus. Are you going with the Basaglar or Lantus and when can you get it.

I think it was because people normally get 100mg & 50mg, of course his dose had to be difficult! I haven't decided yet, I'm going to check my finances & if I can I'm going to get Lantus. Spook has his vet appointment tomorrow & I plan on talking to his vet & trying to get him to give me the script. I think he wants to control it but we will see. His syringes were shipped today so I should be getting them within the next couple of days. I just gave him his 2nd dose of the doxycycline. So far no issues but we are only on day 2.

If that's his first puke today I'd maybe hold off, and yes offer again in a little bit.

You probably want s boulardii, the FortiFlora isn't too great of a probiotic (though cats love it!). Probiotics and antibiotics need to be spaced by at least 2 hours though or they interfere with each other

He's been taking saccharomyces boulardi probiotic @ AMPS feeding with baby food for awhile now. He has his antibiotic @+4 PMPS. He's just sleeping now & seems uncomfortable. I haven't offered him anymore food yet. I normally do there last feeding on the PMPS cycle at +7 so I can get an extra hour of sleep. I will see if He's interested then & go from there. If he's not interested should I give him famotidine or cerenia?

Famotidine is for stomach acid, so if he's throwing up a lot of bile that's what it's used for. Unfortunately I don't know if/how that may interact with the doxy.

I also don't know if/how Cerenia may interact either

Well we will see he had the doxycycline 3hrs ago cerenia about 15mins ago. He ate enough to swallow the pill-pill pocket. I tried fortiflora & parmesan cheese nope doesn't want to eat! I'm not sure what to do!

I also tried baby food he took a couple of licks off of a spoon & was done.

I'm sorry I don't know how to advise :/ can you call ER vet and see if they'll do a phone triage sort of thing?

I am in bed and happened to see this - you could also ask on the Facebook group there may be more people around this time of night

They won't I called they said they can't give advice without seeing him. He's laying on the bathroom floor on a rug. His head & paw was jerking a little but stopped.
