4/18 Maus AMPS/382, +3/322, new syringes: dose advice

Maus has been on 1U glargine generic since the 13th & while her curve has flattened a bit, it's generally higher than when on vetsulin, minus the peaks. One big diff I've seen is she's not as HUNGRY and drinking a bit less.

I'm thinking we need to up the dose, but was waiting to get the 3/10 syringes so I could go up half at a time. They came today & who-boy, I'm ready to not use the pen needles (hold 10 secs in a CAT, are you kidding me?!).

I'm thinking increase to 1.5; suggestions please :cat:

SS is current
RAW diet as desired, 1/4 teaspoon sardines for poking treat, withhold food 2 hrs pre injections

With SLGS, your increases are by 0.25 units at a time, so up to 1.25 units at your convenience. I'm sure Artemis will appreciate the change to syringes. I don't think I ever could have held for 10 seconds!

A favour to ask, could you change the Vetsulin in your signature to Lantus now.

I wouldn't have thought it either; this is a cat who won't be held, yet here we are . . .

I'll up to 1.25 beginning with the PM injection

Excellent! I hope your kitty will soon be out of the pinks and into the yellows on 1.25. Slow and steady does the job. Is Maus your nickname for Artemis?

Yes, I'd love to see consistent yellow.
Maus is her nickname, sort of a combo name from when my kids were into both Greek mythology & opera (Die Fledermaus). Her older half sister was Catherine the Great, so we had Cate & Maus :woot:

That is cute. We had foster kittens and named them Athena, Achilles, Hector so we had some Greek heroes around here too! :-) We still have William the Conqueror, Richard the Lionhearted and Elinor of Aquitane! :-) I like Die Fledermaus!

I have never held the syringe in Tyler for 10 seconds, only did that when he was down to a drop dose
When I first got the pen and pen needles, I wasted a couple units to see what happened. If I held to 10, more drops came out, with the bulk having dispensed in around 4-5 seconds. A couple more drops came out up to 7-10 seconds so I always tried to keep it in as long as she'd sit for it. Beyond the first prick, she doesn't seem to mind, especially around her scruff. Flank shots are more difficult though, she doesn't have much extra skin there & it usually takes a couple 'grabs' to find a good spot. This 10 second rule is a big part of why I'm switching to syringes, plus the fine tuning of dosing.
