Hi Everyone, I am Yun, and I am a new member.
My cat yangyang diagnosed diabete in December last year. He has been on Prozinc insulin since. His vet increase the unit from 2 units to 3 units after a month. It has been challenge to control his glucose. He weights 26lbs (last time check was Saturday, March 26). He has freestyle libre 14 days put on last Saturday. I am very confused by the readings from the monitor. I have been using AlphaTrek to check his glucose 6am / 6pm before meals before having the freestyle.
The two readings are so different. The freestyle readings are mostly between 350-420 but the alphatrek are ups and downs even when I do scan first and test with alphatrek the next.
1. How do I know which one I should rely on?
2. With freestyle CGM, do I still need to check his blood glucose using Alphatrek even though the two readings won't match? or just let the monitor does its work.
So I went out to get a test strips for freestyle tonight but I couldn't get enough blood from him to get the result. After 3 tries, I gave up since his was getting impatient and stressed. I feel the freestyle stripes take more blood than alphatrek stripes.
If someone here has tried freestyle, please share your opinions and experience. I am feeling so frustrated.

Hi Yun and welcome to the forum
The freestyle libre is a human meter and the alphatrak is a pet meter so the readings will be different. The alphatrak meter usually runs higher.

With freestyle CGM, do I still need to check his blood glucose using Alphatrek even though the two readings won't match? or just let the monitor does its work.
I would just use the freestyle libre.

I’m a bit confused……..When you talk about the freestyle libre, do you mean the one that is stuck on and you can get readings on your phone? Then you talk about getting strips for the freestyle meter? I’m not exactly sure what you mean.

The alphatrak meter is very expensive to run. If you live in the US you can buy a ReliOn Premier meter for $9 and 100 test strips for $17.88.

If you could set up our spreadsheet and signature and add any BG data you have, that will be much easier for us to help you.
Here is a link to the spreadsheet , signature and the hypo kit.

He is currently having the freestyle libre 14 days on his back since last Saturday. I just need to scan it.
Because of the discrepancy between freestyle readings and Alphatrek readings, I thought maybe I can get better readings by just using freestyle since the scanner has built in blood glucose meter. I got some test strips yesterday but I couldn’t get enough blood to get the results so I gave up.
Alphatrak is expensive and it was recommended by the vet.

Here is comparison of my human iHealth meter and Libre of the 14 day life of the Libre on my Badger. Note which read higher switched about halfway through the 14 day Libre life.
